I want to spend $5,000-$6,000 on a center stone. I have an appointment with Mayors in a few days to consult with the salesman and look at some diamonds. I want the best price for a round diamond. I am looking for an approximate weight of .90-1.10 carat ideal cut, excellent symmetry/polish, VS2 or better, G color or better. Is this a possibility with my budget? Also, is it okay for a cloud or feather to be in the center of the table? Will I get the best price online? So far I have heard about Blue Nile, WhiteFlash, Goodoldgold, etc.....Anyone have a favorite? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Try using the search at the top of the page. Just doing a quick one I didn''t find anything under 6.5K (ish) with the VS2 clarity. However with a round you can easily drop to SI1 clarity as long as it''s eye clean and get a better price, and going to H color wouldn''t hurt either.

Hello and welcome!

From my experience (and that of many, many PSers) I would definitely say you''ll get the best price online. Online vendors simply don''t have the high overheads of B&M stores and so can offer better prices to consumers.

It''s not absolutely impossible to find a diamond with those specs within your budget, but if you are looking for the very best cut possible (which is what almost all PSers focus on) to get the most beautiful diamond possible, I would suggest dropping to SI1 clarity to keep within your budget.

As long as the diamond is eyeclean, you won''t notice the difference between VS2 and SI1 with your naked eye.

At SI1 clarity there are some options out there for you:

0.94ct F SI1 H&A diamond $5403 after discount

0.9ct F SI1 ACA H&A $5298 before discount

1.03ct G SI1 ACA H&A $6381 after discount (slightly over budget, but over the ''magic'' 1ct mark)

Blue Nile is perhaps the least favoured of the vendors you mention as they don''t provide images of the actual diamond, nor Idealscope images, Sarin, or ASET reports etc.

With regard to inclusions (clouds, feathers etc) each diamond has to be judged on its own merits and you can''t form a decision on a diamond based on its grading report from the lab. Clouds can look appalling on a grading report (you should see the plot for my VS2!).. but in reality the diamond might be completely eye clean from every angle, as close as you can focus on it.

If you can''t see the diamonds in real life, ask the vendor about the inclusions in the stones you like, and get them to check they are eyeclean for you. Also, be sure they know exactly what YOUR definition of ''eyeclean'' means ie, from the sides as well as from above, and at what sort of distance.

Not a lot to be had, here's a few. Had to drop clarity. Many SI1's are eyeclean, just ask.

Bankwire is discount.

Don't you love it when you post after someone else? :)

Picked the same ones though! LOL!

Thank you for your replies. I will probably drop the clarity as suggested to fit my budget.
