Hello All,

I am planning to by an Engagement ring and I need it soon (within a month)...

The only hints I got from my gf is that it must be shiny (really really shiney)
and it must be princess cut.

I am looking at blue nile and trying to decide which one is "shiner":

http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&track=btntext_select&elem=img&pid=LD01080163&filter_id=0
Carat weight: 1.52
Cut: Signature Ideal
Color: D
Clarity: VS1
Depth %: 70.0%
Table %: 71%
Symmetry: Very good
Polish: Very good
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.56 x 6.40 x 4.48 mm
Crown height: 8.9%
Length/width ratio: 1.03

http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&track=btntext_select&elem=img&pid=LD01085861&filter_id=0
Carat weight: 1.53
Cut: Signature Ideal
Color: D
Clarity: VS1
Depth %: 68.0%
Table %: 71%
Symmetry: Very good
Polish: Excellent
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: Faint
Measurements: 6.62 x 6.37 x 4.33 mm
Crown height: 10.7%
Length/width ratio: 1.04

http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&track=btntext_select&elem=img&pid=LD01095850&filter_id=0
Carat weight: 1.50
Cut: Signature Ideal
Color: E
Clarity: VVS2
Depth %: 70.0%
Table %: 71%
Symmetry: Very good
Polish: Very good
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick
Culet: Very small
Fluorescence: Medium blue
Measurements: 6.46 x 6.31 x 4.42 mm
Crown height: 9.2%
Length/width ratio: 1.02

They do have original diamonds pics on their website, but I cannot tell
which one is "shiner" because the picture can be misleading.
The 1.53 looks shiner to me, can anyone confirm this by the numbers.

Also, I need help looking for a "bling" setting... pave is the direction I am heading.
Her hints are:
no 3 stone because it takes away attention form the center stone
wants the center princess diamond to stand out
gots to be "SHINY" (maybe cluster type?? i guess whatever makes the diamond even more shiney)

Does pave only come in round? since the center diamond is square,
won''t pave round make it look funny?

This is too simple:
http://www.bluenile.com/product_details.asp?oid=3470&page=1&show_all_pages=1&col=1&row=3&pos=7&set_shape=

I like this:
http://www.jamesallen.com/products/item_58-1899.asp
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/wanna-see-some-pave-my-new-rings-are-here.21919/

BTW, her ring size is 4.. so 1.5 carat looks HUGE on her.

Any info is appricated.

Thanks for all the helps.

Afraid that the method BN use to asign the best cut princess deos not give me any confidence.
They probably will not give you ASET images :-0 but you can try them.

i can't give you informed feedback on the diamonds you have posted (i already have my princess diamond and have not studied the tutorials and dont' know the numbers inside and out) but the other day i was daydreaming and came across this princess cut and bookmarked it as it appeared to be gorgeous. then i read your post and you're looking at 1.5 ct princess cut diamonds in the price range of this particular diamond and i thought, can't hurt to give you the link for another consideration. it is a G color however, and you are looking at Ds, but none-the-less it's a diamond worth considering IMO. look at the gemex - this thing looks like it performs beautifully. and to my eyes, the cut pattern is delish.

something else i (and others) recommend is to have both diamonds sent to an appraiser local to you. then you can compare side by side and see with your eyes which is more 'shiny'. you will also learn in layman's terms more about the diamonds and get an unbiased opinion. i helped my mom buy a diamond recently, and she bought from a store. i loosely suggested she take the diamonds she was looking at to an appraiser to see them in 'normal' lighting and to learn more, but we did not end up doing this. my dad waited a month to present her with her new ring, and immediately she saw something she hadn't seen under the jewelry store lighting. by then it was too late to exchange the diamond, and a simple trip to the appraisers and $100 could have avoided this issue and she could have kept searching until she found the perfect diamond for her.

reading through many posts here, i've seen time and time again where someone saw two diamonds they were considering to an appraisers and the one they thought was the runner up due to numbers/hca etc. turned out to 'speak' to them more. there's no accounting for seeing them in person after you've done all the due diligence with PS, etc. i know you have a limited timeline, but IMO it's worth the extra step to ensure you give your gal the something 'shiny' she really covets!

ETA: also, the GOG stone i posted is AGS ideal cut, whereas it appears the bluenile's are 'bluenile rated ideal'? if this is true, i would prefer an AGS cut grade over a vendors. not to say theirs aren't beautiful too, it's just that they are biased towards a sale whereas an independent grading lab like AGS is not.

........my advice would be listen to Cut Nut. He's the pro. I fell for the "Signature Ideal" cut crap from BN awhile back on a pendant. It's bologna IMO. My "signature ideal" cut is a round, and it scored POORLY on the HCA and I can tell NOW that it certainly doesn't perform as BN would have you believe a "signature ideal" cut would perform.........Princess cut performance is a much more difficult determination than round. Sure, the BN signature cut princess stone have to meet certain criteria, but to me, BN isn't worried about the whole package on these stones, they don't factor how everything cut wise is going to come together as for performance, just that it meets certain numbers across the board. I think you really need to go with one of these trusted vendors who specialize in awesome Princess cut stones. Like Good Old Gold or Whiteflash. Check out this bad boy around the price of some of these BN stones: http://www.whiteflash.com/aca_princess/A-Cut-Above-Princess-cut-diamond-78228.htm#

Just curious, why are you going for such high color/clarity? It is certainly a personal choice, but you could drop both a bit and not notice a difference IMO. You are doing an awesome job looking for such amazing diamonds for your fiance-to-be, and listening to her preferences.

I agree. A G is still going to appear very white, and if you can''t see the inclusions, well, you can''t see them, no matter what clarity it is.

That GOG stone is purrrty.

Thank you all for your advice.

I am new to this... HCA, https://www.pricescope.com/cutadviser.asp isn''t this just for round cut diamonds? will it work on princess cut diamonds?

i didn''t know that whiteflash.com and goodoldgold.com specialized in princess cut diamonds... i will take a look.

I reason why I am choose D/E... is because that was also a "hint"...

THanks again.

Ahhh, subtle hint on color preference from your girl?

I still think you show her an average princess or BN signature ideal princess in the D/E range next to an ACA Princess in the G/H range and I bet you''d both pick the ACA.
