Hi all. I love this forum and you have taught me a lot. Now I need your help.

I am considering 2 oval diamonds. One is a 2.36 (EGL) nand the other is a 2.6 (GIA).

The measurements of the 2.37 is 10.77 x 7.75 x 4.59.
The measurements of the 2.60 is 10.72 x 7.74 x 4.86.

Where is the carat weight difference coming from? I see the depth is greater on the 2.6, but the l and w are slightly smaller.

Is that small depth difference enough for such a carat weight difference, or could the EGL be off?

THANKS!!

Yes. And 0.3 of a carat is also not a huge amount of rock.

Did you see this post ? There isn't much talk about ovals aound here...

Hi Abbeyld, and welcome!

Have you compared these two stones side by side? That will make all the difference in the world with your decision here.

Although EGL has a reputation for being soft in their grading, I doubt there would be a discrepancy in the weight and measurements (unless the stone does not match the cert of course). If the EGL stone is accurately graded regarding color and clarity and is the same color and clarity as the GIA stone, the EGL stone may be a bargin since EGLs can cost less than GIAs. Both these stones look to be nicely cut stones based on the limited information provided.
