Welcome!

I will take a look at your selections very shortly, I just wanted to add before I forget that there can be a considerable visual size difference between the two carat weights you mention, but the important thing to look for is the spread and diameter measurements of each diamond to get the actual face up size. Usually with well cut diamonds the spread falls into place.

With the first one I would definitely want an Idealscope image which you would need to request in this instance, this angle configuration could show leakage.

The second I suspect again this one could show leakage, the full report and an Idealscope image is needed.

The third, an Idealscope image is needed also.

Same with number 4, also possible leakage from that angle combo. IS will be needed.

Do you prefer F VS1 or are you flexible on colour and clarity? You could lower both a bit without visual sacrifice if the cut is great.

Are you willing to go a little lower in color (G or H instead of F)? Are you willing to go a little lower in terms of clarity (VS2, SI1 instead of VS1)? If so, you can get a larger H&A diamond within your budget.

Ditto what''s been said about going a little lower in colour and clarity in order to get a bigger stone!!

Btw, I hope you don''t mind my asking, are you or your fiancee Vietnamese? Your screen-name is one of my fave Vietnamese dishes!! YUM

ideally, i would like F color. but we would like something that''s nice/shiny/brilliant/eye-clean. bigger size is nice, but is not a high priority.

Okay, thanks bunrieu, I think you should stick with an F color and look at VS2 as well as VS1. If clarity is important, you may not want to go below VS2, but expanding your search to include F VS2 will give you many more options in the 1.20 to 1.50 H&A stones. Good luck!

yes, please suggest something lower in color/clarity and bigger size, but still clean/briliant to the naked eye within the 10,400-11-500.

phoenix, we both are viet.

G SI1 looks good from the numbers.

F SI1 not that good. Probably some leakage.

Request Idealscope image from JA and ask if eye-clean if you are interested in them.

Leakage is light leakage through the pavilion instead of returning to the observer making the stone look dull.

Use the cut adviser. https://www.pricescope.com/cutadviser.asp Score under 2 is worthy of further examination such as requesting for an Idealscope/ASET image.

To interpret the IS/ASET image, study this tutorial.

The new set of stones, the 1.33c does not have enough information for us to deduce the cut. The 1.36c looks promising.

can someone enlighten me what ''leakage'' mean and how do i detect it from the diamond numbers? is it the girdle? cutlet?

how about this:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VVS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1247825.asp
Light leakage is basically light escaping from a diamond when it should be reflected back to the eye, usually caused by a steep pavilion angle or combined steep deep crown and pavilion angles. An Idealscope or ASET image will show this, in some photos it is possible to see it too if you know what to look for.

Would it be helpful if the resident experts suggested some stones to you? Sometimes the experienced eyes on this forum can locate good contenders far faster than we newbies can!

sarah, all suggestions are welcome and encourage.

thanks all ..most appreciated.

Oh ok, thanks for letting me know!

queenmum, yes very nice, but unfortunately way out of my budget. thanks

So funny, I just notice your name is bun rieu.
I love to eat bun rieu, but it is hard to find here in Belgium.

If you stay around the 1.2 to 1.3 size, here are two H&A stone in your budget. You''ll need to ask JA for Idealscopes and Arrows images, which I understand they will supply on request.

#1

#2

The Idealscope image on the GIA graded one, along with the crown/pav angle combination, could indicate some leakage, but maybe not enough to matter. It could be worth seeing it in person.
