I have a 1.67 oval that is 9.77mm by 6.87mm. I want the Harry Winston look but their 1.5mm band is too narrow. I have a jeweler that was going to make a 1.9mm band and halo with 1.7mm small pave stones on the band and halo, but I am thinking that size will be too large of a stone. (especially in proportion to the center stone on the halo) I told him how about 1.8mm band and 1.4mm stones. I like the same size stones on hale as the band / shank. He said I will see too much metal with a 1.8wide band and 1.4mm wide stone. Is that true?? Any advise? They want to cast the stone soon and I need to let them know. I am mostly worried about the halo looking too wide and chunky for the stone or having it show too much metal. Thanks for any advise!

The HW halo look involves 1 pointers, or even half pointers if the center stone is smaller. I would definitely go as small as a jeweler can reasonably do.

As for the shank choose 1) the 1.5 mm Harry Winston shank; or 2) slightly larger melee in the shank that doesn't exactly match the halo.

Must compromise somewhere.

Thanks. I think the 1.5mm shank is too thin for me. I had wanted a 1.9mm band but also thought the width of the halo should be the same as the width of the shank. My stone size wise is almost the same as most 2.0 carat. I just got back from the jeweler to tell him to go with 1.8mm shank and 1.8mm halo with 1.4mm (just over a 1 point) pave stones in both shank and halo. He said I would still see too much metal and to stick with the 1.8mm width and use 1.5mm stones. (1.5points) I don't like that daisy, bulky look in the halo, but he said it would not look that way. He is making up a CAD and said to use the u shape micro pave 4prong setting in the small stones. I have been waiting so long for this! If the CAD stones look too big, I guess I'll go down to 1.4 and see! He said the 1point...1.3mm tiny stone is too small for 1.8 or 1.9 shank.

Have you seen examples of your jeweler's work? As long as they look good, I would trust your jeweler. They know their work best.

I personally like different size melees for the shank and the halo. Smaller halo stones help make accentuate the center. You want as little metal showing in the halo as possible so you might have to go with your jeweler's recommendations.
