Okay I have posted info on updating my 2.05 studs. I have decided to go for it. I have been to a bunch of jewelry stores looking at stones sizes and then running home to price scope and all their e-vendors web sites.

so

I believe if I can sell my 2.05 privately (so far on line vendors will not take them to upgrade and jewelry stores say their trade in value is only $2,000 (too bad I paid $7.000 but that's another topic)

I will have just under 10,000 to spend.....What on line vendor .......my dream is 2.40 tcw h-i color S12 clarity.

B2c looks like they are the cheapest although I think Blue Niles will match prices. Whiteflash has gorgous things but i'd have to go much smaller in size or below J in color.

Help give me your opinion. If Diamondseeker is out there you seem to be everywhere what is your opinion on what I should do.

finally I am so scared to wire 10,000 to someone that I dont know how can I be resassured that this is safe.

If you want peace of mind, Whiteflash and Brian Gavin both have impeccable reputations for integrity here. I would not worry about wiring funds to either one. Same is true for James Allen, but I've seen some posts indicating JA's settings have had QC issues recently.

With that in mind, I'd go for BGD or WF. I personally like BGD's earring settings best (great quality and selection), but Whiteflash also has good settings and a better upgrade policy than BGD, so I would choose based on whether you think you'll upgrade in the future. WF also gives you 30 days to return, BGD only 15.

Gosh, those stones just wouldn't appeal to me as they just aren't in the measurement range I look for. But regardless, there are a lot of SI2 stones that are not eyeclean. I also would look for two the same color. I SI1 is as low as I would go unless you have a jeweler hand picking SI2's for you. Even SI1 isn't always eyeclean.

I do not mind helping you with the stones, but if I were doing this for me, I'd be starting with upgradable ideal cut stones just under a carat and then trade them up over time.

But as you look, you'll be safest if you stick within these measurements or close to them:

table: 54-58

depth: 60-62.3

crown angle: 34-35

pavilion angle: 40.6-41.0

I have wired to WhiteFlash and Good Old Gold multiple times and have no issue doing so. I probably would be okay with the idea with most known PS vendors.

white flash is very pricey......that is my first issue

thank you sooo much. I guess I have to save money as I'd rather just hang on to my 2.05 size until I can get the sI1 stones with ideal cut. 2.30thanks for your....

Went to Tiffany today to show my husband the difference in what a good cut does for the brillance of the stone.

So even if I select GIA certified ideal cut stones I still have to be specific with the other stats. So if you had 10,000 to spend you would go smaller. What color and clarity would you go with the smaller stones?

So confused 10,000 seems like so much money to have small studs?

ooops that was for one of the two stones lol

I was thinking of calling Good old guys as we live not too far from long island so she could go there is he has several pairs to choose from. She has left this in my hands....I want to get her the best bang for her buck 10,000 so I will stay close to 1 carat each 2 tcw so now

will you guys help me find actual stones to look at WF as gorgous as their website is I'd really have to sacrifice color and clartiy for 2 carate as they are pricer than GOG or JA

so lets find some stones ladies

Heidi, I think you need to give us a little more info. I take it someone has asked you to help them find studs? I honestly would recommend sticking to the .90 range to get nice color and clarity. It would have to be really low to get over a carat with a $10k budget. GOG is a great idea if you can go there, but I would arrange for them to call in some matched stones for you to see before you go (and make appointment).

I can take a look and see what WF has, too!

so funny I posted on wrong topic I am looking for studs for my friend which was a new topic I started yesterday I just called jonathan at GOG to look for her but I will go look at the ones you just posted thanks ....

That is what I thought might have happened! I just added another pair. But I'd see what Jon can find, too!

hey diamond seeker my only problem with going .90 each is she wears an IF 7 carat pear shape engagment ring and she loved my 2.41 so I am going down to 2.00 to compromise but I think that if I come up with studs 11-12,000 she might go for it ..

I have about the same budget and have been shopping around. You won't hit 2.3ctw for ideal cut stones in that color/clarity range. It's more like 2-2.1. They'll look better than your current ones though. Besides, I can't see the difference between 1.05 and 1.1. It's in tenth of a mm.

If you're interested, I can post the I/SI1 and I/SI2 2.1tcw pair I saw yesterday at IDJ. They were eye-clean to me. I ended up choosing a pair in J because they were cheaper and I couldn't see the difference in color between I and J. Again, those criteria are what I'm able to see. YMMV.

I think my first mistake was telling her mine were 10,000 but that was 8 cash and my 2.05 ers so she probably got 10,000 stuck in her head. She might surprise me by either expanding budget or going .90 so I also called GOG because we live in nJ and she could actually go out there is she wanted to see stones in person.

So we'll see what happens by the way I got all the validation I needed about my new studs when I went to her house last night not knowing that I got new earrings she stopped me at the door and said OMG your earrings are so White and sparkly are they new YEH :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :wavey:

I just got 2.41 last week . I was lucky they are G S12 and I I (EGL certified F si1 and G SI1) ideal cut ...I paid 8,000 cash and traded in my poorly cut 2.05 (got $2,000-$3,000 for them)

They are in the Bling forum I having trouble copying them onto here I'm on my work computer

baby monster I am happy to look at them . Keep in mind that I am buying for my friend so I think I will try to use web sites that she can view the stones like JA or GOG will make video for us on utube. It is harder buying for someone else I want her to be really happy.

If she has a 7 ct IF stone, surely she can do a little more than $10k for studs, I would hope! You are right that she needs to go to a carat or more with a ring that large. She can do I or J SI stones, but GIA XXX stones are going to be more than $10k. $15k would be more relaistic. I would explain to her that for purposes of upgrading in the future, she is better off going with GIA/AGS graded stones from a vendor like GOG.

It seems that you're not really looking for ideal cut stones but more for maximizing size in certain EGL color/clarity. There is a premium for GIA certs and ideal cut so the stones I had in mind would not be the best choice for you.

Nope I bought my stones that happen to come with EGL certificates I had them separately looked at and that's why I am calling them G S12 and I I1 (as that is what the GIA appraiser I know told me) but they are pretty close to ideal without actually sending them in...All I really wanted was FLASH from all sides.

My friend however is a diamond newbie and she saw mine and wants similar she gave me a $10,000 budget. I want GIA stones for her from one of our PS dealers so she can upgrade and be sure she gets quality stones. We will have to have wiggle room for color and clarity Plus I called GOG Jonathan since his stores is within 2 hours of us. (actually 80 miles but it can take rorever from NJ to NY long island LOL)

Anyway..that's why I am asking PS suggestions still waiting for that call back. But it is really fun working with PS I had to do trade in and sell jewelry to make my deal so I couldn't go direct with edealer.

Couldn't resist the opportunity to post photo of my babies... Sorry I dont understand the are takin upright on my phone but come out side ways and they always come out red. oh well
