Hello everyone, orginally I joined up after looking to buy a promise ring but after thinking long and hard lurking here for ages I scrapped that idea and decided to propose and bought my loving lady a Mark Morrell petite sunburst. I don''t really post here or anything (as u can see from my post count lol) hence no thread or pictures. My wife to be wants a plain platinum wedding band a really thin one at under 2mm or max 2mm.

I know the best thing is obviously to buy it from Mark but I live in the UK and is it really worth it to pay for a custom plain platinum band and pay for him to ship it to someone else (he doesn''t ship abroad directly) and then have that someone else ship it to me via international post and then pay VAT on top of it? Honestly I don''t think its worth all that hassle.

But on the flip side I know he uses a different platinum blend to most. We like this thin platinum band at Tiffany''s, which seems reasonably priced and is the perfect width (1.7mm).

The problem is that Tiffany platinum is 950ru and Mark''s is 900ir (I think). Will the difference be noticeable between the two rings considering they are different blends and with MM''s polish and finish on the engagement ring? I''ve seen the chart showing 3 settings with different blends and I do notice a slight difference but I was wondering if there will be a difference noticeable in ''real life'' in everday lighting conditions?

I hope this all makes sense and thank you in advance for any replies

I don''t believe you will notice any difference. My wedding band is 950 plat and when I wear it with my grandmother''s 900 plat 100 irid engagement ring the metals look identical.

Platinum develops a patina of tiny scratches, especially if two rings are worn next to each other and rub each other, so you will have to have the rings repolished anyway if you want to maintain the shiny finish.

Can you take a look at the ring you''re considering in person and see how it looks to you in real life?
