Hello everyone. I purchased a lab 2.8 G VS2 from Ritani. I received it Friday and although it is absolutely beautiful I feel like I want it to be a little larger. I don’t mind if it’s IGI as long as it is the equivalent of what the GIA looks like in terms of cut color and clarity. I need help picking out a replacement for my exchange. Looking for a 3ct for $3k or a little less. Anyone want to help? TIA :)

Hi!

When it comes to IGI versus GIA, IGI does not indicate whether CVD diamonds specifically have post-growth treatment. Their reports state only that a CVD diamond "may include post-growth treatment." Both GIA and GCAL reports I reviewed during a recent project stated if post-growth treatment was detected.

I sent an email to IGI about it and—as expected— I did not receive a reply.

I ended up using HPHT diamonds instead because IGI does state whether post-growth treatment was detected in them (it wasn’t).

Of course, this might not be a dealbreaker or important at all to some buyers ;)2

Wow, I actually did not know this! So my GIA report will have this info? What treatments do they typically do?

Here are two for you to take a look at.

Thank you! Do you think IGI G would be warm we than my current GIA G?

I am going to wear her for a couple days and make my decision then. The diamond and setting are gorgeous. I will post pictures tomorrow.

I didn’t know, either, until a couple of weeks ago. I read an article about how HPHT diamonds have all these color and inclusion issues, but my diamonds are pretty nice IMO (H color, VS1/VVS2) and IGI-graded.

Honestly, I did not look much into what kind of post-growth treatment is applied because I knew I just wanted mine “as grown,“ so the possible treatments didn’t matter. But, I think—based on the very little I’ve read—HPHT is done post-growth to permanently improve color.

Likely not a big deal, but I’m just picky about some things. ;)2

I’m jealous! The 3.39 is now less expensive than my 2.9

Possibly, but it's not always true that IGI is softer than GIA. Inked had an IGI G VS2 recut, and GIA re-graded it as F VS1.

Here are some F options.

I found a 3.02 G VS2 GIA. Sending the other one back tomorrow to have it swapped out. I will come back and post pictures once I receive it

The new diamond I chose does not show that this treatment has been done. Thank you for bringing it to my attention that this was even a thing :)
