Hello- I just had a question about a custom made 6-prong knife edge tiffany replica platinum solitaire setting.
I feel like the setting does not not any justice to my 1 carat stone - which is a sparkling beauty(F/VS2). There are moments where the stone looks amazing and proportionate to the setting, and there are other times where I feel like the setting is possibly too low, making the stone look quite smaller than it does at other times..
And I also had a few questions about the level of craftsmanship I should expect from a custom setting...these are some things I noticed...
a) Is it common for the the width/shape of each prong to be slighty varied? Some of the prongs are noticeably thicker than others...and there are some that are tapered where as others are not.
b) The setting also thins out towards the back...what I mean by that is, I tend to flip my ring around when walking around the neighborhood late at night in fear of getting it stolen..but I noticed that the width of the setting is very much thinner in the "back" than it is near the "front"(near the stone). Was that just the designer''s preference?
c)The width of the setting is noticeable thicker on the left side of the stone than of the right side.
I know there is no such thing as a "perfect" ring when it comes to custom designs..but these things keep popping out at me now that I''ve noticed them. Am I being too detail-oriented? I just feel like my amazing fiance worked so hard to make this beautiful ring come to life, but the setting just falls short of what I think the designer should have provided. What do you think? Thanks for your help in advance!
