Need help on Yellow Cushion Diamond E-Ring (Soleste?) SF, Ca

Hello,

I've been looking with my girlfriend at Tiffany. We found the Tiffany Yellow Soleste ring (.76 FI, Vs2 11,900 , .70 FI VVS2 12,100). They look wonderful however with those stats on a yellow diamond I could probably find a 1 carat with similar or better stats for 7-8k. Buy a similar mount for 2-3k and a total price nearly identical to Tiffany.

Main concern:

She would like to see the actual stone and ring in person.

1) Are their other stores that have the same look but of maybe larger size 1.00+ and better clarity?
2) What about the same look but with white diamond

I live in San Francisco, please let me know if any stores are near

thanks
Steve

The setting will run you about 6k for similar quality actually. And you do not want to skimp on pave, especially on a ring like that. Joe Escobar in Campbell has a great bench for pave but their prices can be a bit higher for custom (for stock they are very competitive) than the vendors like Steven Kirsch that we recommend and use on these boards. Finding fancy color diamonds is tricky. I personally would look at Lebish for the diamond http://www.fancydiamonds.net/&medium=adwords&campaign=leibish&adgroup=leibish?gclid=CMbix_fX-bECFSXhQgodLXQANQ

I do like this one: http://www.fancydiamonds.net/view_diamonds/6862.htm nice oval
http://www.fancydiamonds.net/view_diamonds/9188.htm nice radiant

It won't save you a lot of money though, going this route. For a top quality double halo setting with a lifetime warranty (which is what you get with Tiffany) and a fancy intense yellow center the price is not that bad.

HI Steven,
A common concern for shoppers is actually seeing the item in person prior to buying.
With yellow diamonds in particular, this is difficult as not a lot of places carry them.
Personally, I recommend that shoppers in Fancy Colors consider both ring and diamond together.
I also feel this is true in colorless- as you have one company to deal with if things are not to your liking.
But with fancy colors there's an additional aspect- the color of these stones can really change ( in a good or bad way) depending on the setting methods, and quality.

By all means ask about warantees- that is a valuable commodity for owners of Micro pave rings.

How much markup do you think Tiffany has? She love's these but she also wants a larger 1carrat one. I've told her quality and brand is something to look at over size. Some diamonds have large griddles [thick which] adds weight.

What do you think of the white diamond version? It is a little cheaper

Thanks a bunch

Tiffany has a good mark up. But a lot depends on the true color of those yellows. A 70 point GIA intense cushion with good clarity can go for 6k, you add that to the 6k setting and that makes it a good deal. With fancy diamonds the pricing isn't as easy to compare as whites.

BUT I can tell you one thing. Yellow diamonds (colored diamonds in general) can be cut very deep to intensify their color, which means that they face up small. The depth is much more indicative of how small or large the diamond is facing up than any girdle.

I will be honest. I've returned every Tiffany piece I've ever bought for myself because I couldn't stomach the mark up. BUT if I wanted a Soleste ring-- I would go for the original. That warranty and the Tiffany name on that design is worth it.

As for the white/yellow thing: ask her. I wanted a canary diamond initially, until I realized how expensive they were and I happily chose a white diamond instead. BUT that one MY choice-- only your lady can tell you the right choice for her.

Hi, i have a similar ring made just a year ago. I had a local jeweller source the stone for me then have it set at a different vendor that specializes in custom work. i ended up with a bigger fancy light yellow at a fraction of the Tiffany's price. The custom made approach worked for me as 1) I happen to have access to vendors who have the resource and skills to make it happen, 2) I was NOT looking to create an exact replica, 3) custom work is not costly in HK where I live.

From my own experience, i find that it's very difficult to find a cushion with the same combination measurement and color as the soleste. Creating the right proportion setting is also a challenge without knowing the soleste's measurement and formula. But the custom made route will allow you to build it the way you want it... bigger stone, smaller/bigger halo, split/single shank, color etc...

If you search "double halo yellow" in this forum, you will see quite a lot of discussions and pics of soleste inspired rings.

Happy researching!

I live in East bay but have bought all our major jewelry(engagement ring, diamond wedding band, mens wb, and most recently, an anniversary ring) at Giraux. They carry fancy color diamonds including yellow and browns in pave halos. I tried some on and you really had to pry them off my fingers-- they were truly exquisite. Giraux is located at 888 Brannan. If you fb them, you can see pictures of their inventory that they post occasionally. Pretty sure there's a couple of pictures of yellow diamond engagement rings in there. Hope that helps!

Leibish has a special offer on some yellow diamond rings with halo settings, worth a look?? Not cushion cuts though.

I know you are looking for someone in CA but I would contact David at DBL (who already commented in your thread). Honestly some people love working with him and others well....don't. I bought a FLY diamond from him and was very happy with it. I had it set by WF in a double halo but when Wintotty posted her "Soleste ring" by DBL I was floored.

Here is her thread. I would check it out. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-new-rhr-double-halo-yellow-diamond-ring.157408/
