Hi, I’m looking to get a new natural diamond engagement ring for my 10 year wedding anniversary. I’m having a hard time narrowing down a diamond cut since I like so many of them. I’ve tried on many cuts the last few years while browsing and still haven’t narrowed it down. My budget is 15k and I know I want a diamond close to a 2 carat that is G or better and eye clean. While I love ashers, I’ve ruled them out since they look small. Anything else I should consider when narrowing down the cut?

While a common, but classic choice, an ideal cut round will generally have the best sparkle and light return of any shape diamond. You'll be well under 2 cts with G color and VS2-SI1 clarity at $15k, though.

Ovals face up larger, but finding well cut ones is difficult.

Do you like a modern look or rather old sparkles? Classic or unusual?

Ditto @diamondseeker2006

Also, you need to stick with GIA (or AGS) graded stones unless perhaps it's an OEC or OMC.

I would definitely agree it would be difficult to get a 2ct eyeclean G round; but I think it can be found (not a super ideal ofc). The PS search threw up one decent option within budget (HCA 1.2, all excellents, G SI1, 2ct from USA certed at around 14k IIRC). So I would say it’s highly difficult but possible. I saw a couple ~1.8 that would get her to 7.85mm within budget; or ofc going down in colour would help but perhaps not a trade off she would like to make? Can’t hurt to try anyway!

edit: Oops - I just checked and the symmetry is only Good, that’s why! Sorry for misleading!! But there are 3Ex that are 7.85mm+ for sure!

Do you have any in the 1.8 mark you would recommend?

Here's a promising one, but you have to call James Allen and ask for the GIA report and then post it here. It does score well on the HCA cut tool, but we can't see all the measurements of the stone on James Allen. Put it on hold if you are interested, because lurkers are always watching for stone recommendations. I'll look a little more. Well, this is the best and largest one I can find in the $15k range.

@diamondseeker2006 found you a lovely mrb!

I just wanted to post an alternative shape. People seem to love these ovals bc there are no bow ties and light performance is optimized:) This is slightly lower carat weight but it may present larger...

Interesting. I’ve never heard of this. Thank you. I love it!

I would buy if I had 15k.

It’s beautiful. What do you think about this one? Slightly more affordable and I love the sparkle but am worried about the inclusion in the table.

I* think you would be able to see that inclusion if you were looking for it. It has a large table and a very flat crown. Look at the stone where you
mostly see the pavilion...you can see the inclusion pretty easily from the pavilion as well as a thick girdle and flat crown.
