I am starting to look at rings and I am fairly confused on what is considered a good diamond. I''ve been looking on James Allen and Blue Nile but I have no idea what constitues as a good diamond. I''ve lurked around here for some time now trying to gain a better understanding of all the terms, but I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could give me some input on the following Diamonds. Thank you very much.

Shape: Princess
Carat weight: 1.06
Cut: Premium

Clarity: VS2
Certificate: GIA

Depth: 74.9%
Table: 74.0%

Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 5.54*5.41*4.05
Ratio: 1.02

Shape: Princess
Carat weight: 1.01
Cut: Premium
Color: I
Clarity: VS2
Certificate: GIA

Depth: 70.3%
Table: 76.0%
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Girdle: Very thin to very thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: Faint
Measurements: 5.73*5.59*3.93
Ratio: 1.03

Very thick, Extremely thick are not desirable. A small portion of thick is more acceptable. Similarly, very thin, or extremely thin is not desirable, except for very small portions.

Welcome to Pricescope,

Really no way to tell without detailed pics and ASET images, which vendor has these?

Thank you very much for the info. How does the thickness affect the overall quality of the diamond? Also the diamonds are from James Allen, I apologize for not listing that earlier. Here is the setting i am looking at purchasing to set the diamond in. I was also wondering, with that setting if I purchase a J-Color Diamond, will there be a noticable color difference between the main diamond and diamonds that are already in the setting. Once again thank you very much for all the information.

Thick girdles add to the weight, but you gain nothing face-up. Honestly, I like to look at AGS stones. There are just sooo many GIA stones, and half of them don''t look that great to me... I can''t stand that kind of low success rate. But, AGS 0 are more expensive, usually.

I would ask JA how your chosen diamonds would look with that setting for colour, also ask them if they can provide pics and an Idealscope image. The thick girdles may not be too much of an issue or they could be, it depends on the rest of the diamond, if the diamonds look good overall then worth considering, if the cut is mediocre then not.
