I am looking at buying a diamond with these specs:

1 carat round brillliant
VS1-VS2
Certification: AIG
Color: G
Polish: excellent
Symmetry: excellent
Measurements: 6.20 x 6.21 x 3.89mm
Depth: 62%
Table: 64%
Fluorescence: strong

Does the fluorescence greatly devalue the ring? What I want to know is if the diamond is truly worth the money they are touting it to be worth which is $8,500 retail. I would be paying $2k for it.

Hi tjennings and welcome.

Have you seen this stone in person? The cut is off on that stone. An ideal cut round 1 carat stone should have a diameter of about 6.5mm. The table is huge too. I''ve never heard of AIG- the lab that graded it.is the fluorescence yellow or blue? Blue can be good if you like the effect, yellow would be very bad...

As Ms. S said, flourescence isn't really a problem - as long as it's blue flour.
I wish my G-VS2 had medium blue flour.

A 64% table is huge! I wouldn't go for that stone personally.
Look for something 54-56% table. 60-62% depth.

Also - certification - AIG? Do you mean GIA?

Stick around read some tutorials on cut. (Read Good Old Gold's Tutorial on Cut)
Educate yourself before spending lots of money.
If nothing else it will make you feel better knowing what you're purchasing.

Scintillating...

Am I reading you correctly? $2000 for a purported G-VS 1 ct stone? There''s something seriously wrong with that, even if you''re paying true wholesale (i.e., you''re buying it out the back door of a diamond manufacturer).

Aye Captain......Me thinks something smells fishy with this deal myself.

tjennings13: Deals that appear to be too good to be true are usually too good to be true. I like large tabled diamonds, but that one is just outrageously huge. And a stone is typically not graded VS1 - VS2. It''s either VS1 or it''s VS2, but it''s not in between. Personally, I would not trust this at all.

Good luck. Stick around and read up on the tutorials. There''s so much useful information available here in PS

for me it *values* the ring... One of my best friends though has a 3 stone ring that she hate to wear because *she* knows that under blacklight two of the stones flour and one doesn''t LOL She''s a dork, I *love* flour and I think I want it so much I''d sacrifice just about anything for it LOL Don''t fear the flour!! lol

actually after reading a bit more I think the price is a bit high for any 1 carat stone in that range... but I still wouldn''t knock it for the flour, myself.

damn, I''m *not* reading correctly...

I own a .92 round and it''s measurements are bigger than that stone. You are losing weight where you can''t see it...the stone is deep. I would absolutely pass on this stone. Do some research here...read the tutorials and use the pricescope your diamond feature. It definitely pays to learn all you can so you make sure you are getting exactly what you want. Good luck!

Welcome

I agree pass on this diamond. It will look smaller than it should a 1 carat diamond should measure about 6.5mm, the table is huge and the depth a bit deep - but depth isn''t always the deciding factor. Also it is extremely cheap and I have never heard of AIG certs...

Plenty of diamonds out there, there is also a reason this diamond is so cheap. Keep looking if I were you.
