Need help on an EC - Please rate!

Seems like only possible negatives I see here are that the girdle may be on thick side and it is more of a square emerald which may be something to consider as Ive read that EC''s are gaining popularity in the square to matchbox shape.

Please comment as soon as possible as Ive been having a rough time finding an EC this size for this price with good qualities!

Specs look fine. A L/W ratio of 1.08 is on the ''squarish'' side, but that''s totally a matter of taste. As long as the girdle isn''t v. thick, you''ll be ok also, although on this one you do lose a bit of spread. The price seems very good (in fact, my first reaction was: "what''s the catch?"). Most that I searched with similar specs are closer to $20K.

Can you get photos, and IS image and ASET? Also, fancy shapes like ECs have to be seen -- specs/pics will only go so far.

I haven''t gotten that far with it for pics but let me ask you, when you say "lose a little spread", could you explain?..Also, is ASET/ IS readily available on these diamonds as an online Pricescope vendor has it.

Sorry I wasn''t clear. When a diamond has a thick or very think girdle, some of the carat weight is taken up there and lost in the size appearance (when viewed form above) so it will look a bit smaller (given a fixed depth). Typically not a huge problem, but if a v. thick can be avoided, so much the better. Analogously, a very thin girdle is also not the most desirable, since it can chip more easily.

Photos/ASET/IS images are available from some of the PS vendors -- I think many of them -- particularly GOG, WF and I think ERD and others. There may be a nominal fee for some of these. Just ask the vendor you are thinking of using.

As EQ says, please see if you can get photos and ASET, then we can go from there.

A thick or even v-thick girdle is often fine and is much better than a bulging pavilion which is often done to save weight.
In other words I would take a v-thick girdle over a med with bulging pavilion any day.
So the girdle size is not a black and white issue.
