Hiyas,
I would like to get some help searching for a round brilliant diamond with approximately the following specs (in order of priority):
ideal/excellent cut, 1.4ct stone, E/F color, si2 eye clean

I've been doing a bunch of searches and can't seem to find any good deals. Honestly, I have been reading this forum everyday for the last 2 weeks and feel so overwhelmed. Any help is appreciated.

ETA: this is for an e-ring. My bf has been thoughtful enough to ask me for my input in this since he knows how picky I am. I am planning to have the diamond set in a Ritani pave setting.

"The inclusion on the end is eye visible and it just breaks the surface but it is not an open break. It is completely safe in our opinion. Put that inclusion under a prong and you are hiding the visible look and are also protecting it. We feel confident in this diamonds clarity."

Is this a cause for concern? Do you guys think there is a noticeable difference between G and F? I don''t want to see yellow from the sides.

How come they don''t have the GIA link? Is this a stone that they don''t have on hand and need to get shipped to them?

A well cut 1.4 exact is a rather hard size to find though, just a heads up.

I am open to the size being a little smaller or larger than 1.4ct. I wonder why there is not much selection for the exact size.

You''re welcome!

As to why there are not many in that size? when cutters start getting that close to the 1.5 mark, they do eveything they can to achieve it, and over. That''s a price jump, they get more money.

So, when you say you''re willing to go over, about the only way to really open up the possibilities is to go to 1.5, but that''s gonna cost you. Is that a possibility?
 
I think my bf would want to look at larger sizes, and he has...but honestly, I would be happy getting a smaller stone 1.3/1.2 and staying in the $8-9k budget. Looking at all these diamonds can make you crazy and want bigger and better but you have to step back and think about what is realistic. I originally told him 1ct was good and now that we found all these great sources on PS, I will be able to get larger than 1ct for the same price.

He''s planning to start law school next year so money is going to be tight. And I want to get married soon and would rather get a smaller ring now than wait another few years for a larger stone...we''ve been together for over 9 years now. When I really think about it in the grand scheme of things, the size doesn''t matter that much. But it is sooo hard trying not to get carried away with all the bling posted here

You can very safely consider a G and you will see no yellow in a round with an excellent cut.

I think you are wise to stay smaller now and upgrade in the future. Just make sure you go with a vendor who has a good policy on that! In the meantime, I''ll keep my eye out for anything else in your size/budget, and let us know what you find out on your end.
 
Of the ones posted so far, I one from goodoldgold looks great. If they are confident about the clarity, I would trust them. Also, you aren''t going to see a bit of any color in a g, it will be WHITE! The stones from JA might have potential too depending on their certs and #''s. I''m not diggin the WF stones so much.
 
I''d ask Jon about that stone, he will be very honest with you. It could be a nice one.

The first one is facing up a bit smaller, as is the second and fifth one, I''d like to see you get as much bang as you can for your buck. That G SI2 has potential, but without the crown and pavillion angles, we don''t have the whole story.

A 1.3 is still a lovely size, and G and even a high H color will look just great.

I prefer the VS2 over the SI2, personally. A GOG has a lifetime trade-up if you ever want to get a larger diamond in the future for an anniversary. I am thinking James Allen limits his trade-up to five years if I''m not mistaken.
 
Let me add that I also looked for a stone in the 1.4 range for months and months and realized that they were very, very rare. Most of my choices were either in the 1.3 range or 1.5. Since mine is for an anniversary and we have been married a very long time, we decided to go above 1.5. But you are young and a 1.3 in a high quality stone like the one above is just going to be lovely!

I couldn''t really see the markings because it was a fax but it looked like there was a lot of stuff going on in the drawing. The guy said that the inclusions are twinning wisps and that this type of inclusion does not adversely affect the brilliance or scintillation. He also sent me the crown and pavilion angles and it got a 1.4 on the HCA with excellent grades for light return, fire, scintillation and very good for spread. It almost sounds too good to be true...since the stone is not in-house, I''m not sure that it will be eye clean. What do you all think about this?

As a side note, we went to Robbins Bros this weekend and although the stones they showed us looked nice, nothing really wow''ed me. They showed us about five 1-1.3 ct, F-H, VS-SI stones in AGS ideal cuts along with some of their other branded cuts which I didn''t really care for. This was my first time comparing diamonds and what I learned from this was that I am sensitive to color (G is probably the lowest I should go) and can consider SI''s as long as I cannot see the inclusions. One of the stones had an AIG cert and I swear I saw like 3 big inclusions under the microscope that were not marked on the cert...but I guess it was SI rated so they don''t mark everything. I was not able to see any arrows from the AGS ideal cuts they showed us and was wondering if you are supposed to be able to see them without a loupe...how does everyone take such great photos of the arrows with the ring on their hand? Overall, it just seemed that the RB stones were overpriced...but I guess you would expect that from a b&m store.
