I have been spending many days and nights searching for the right diamond. I am making myself a wreck. I need some help. I originally started looking for:

1.75 RB
Ideal Cut
D-H
VVS-VS2

I very recently have been thinking that if I am going to do this than I should go all out, and started search for a:

2+/- RB
Ideal Cut
D-H
VVS-VS2

Most of what I have found falls in the G-H VS2 categories. I have read many posts on here where it has been suggested that clarity is one "C" that may be scarificed and some have even suggested going to SI range. I have also read that color is more noticealbe in larger diamonds. Will G be white enough or should I hold out for D-F?

I keep coming back to these two diamonds. Any comments concerns would be greatly appreciated:

Lastly I am going with an micro pave band from Ritani (1.8mm). Will a diamond this size over power a band this delicate?

Thank you,

Don''t freak out, it''ll be okay.

I think a G would be an excellent choice for color. I have an H and it''s incredibly white. If you eventually end up looking at other stones, I think you should drop your clarity from VVS to just VS1-SI1. VVS is a little oveboard in my opinion, and you can get a bigger stone for a better value. No one will tell the difference, even you.

You''re right, color is more noticable in larger diamonds, however, RB''s hide color very well, especially if you have an ACA. Usually we tell people to think about their color choices when they''re looking for stones that generally can''t hide color well, like step cut stones (emerald, asschers), and princess cut stones.

As far as the Ritani band... it''s really a personal preference. I tend to think that 2 carat diamonds look huge no matter what band, but you definitely want to think about the possibility of the ring rolling around on her finger.

Those two diamonds you picked are going to look almost identical in your eyes, other than an increase in size. The stats are almost identical, just a few tenths off difference in the crown angle. Have WF send you a picture of them next to each other if you can, but your eyes may go for the slightly larger one because that''s just how people are.

hey, well I dont think you are going to see any size difference at all with these two. Especially after its set. sure its a little more ct weight, but in reality it is less than 1% mm increase, so I really dont see that translating into any sortof visual difference.

They are virtually identical cuts and both ACA, so I think performance wise you should be getting the same thing.

So, what it really comes down to is whatever minute difference there might be in clarity.

Clarity grades are not as exact as angle measurements. Both clarity and color are in fact ranges. Thus, I say find otu which range the two fall in.

First, as the color of the two inclusions and from what angles they might be visible. They might be eyeclean from the top, but if one of them is clean from the side and the other is not, and neither of them is having any kind of performance impact, then obviously choose the one that is cleaner--hopefully consisting of white/clear inclusions.

Then ask them to compare the two colors side by side for you and see if anybody there can discern a difference. They are both Gs, true, but one of them may be a borderline F and the other a broderline H, so that would be an important difference to note.

Finally, have them compare the two side by side for you for visual differences in performance, if non have them let you know, if they see any have them tell you which one they prefer.

If everything turns out to be equal, get the cheaper one of course.

not to give you more to think about BUT

there's a few WF expert selection RBs avail that are 2 ct & cost less than the two you posted. one is a 2 ct E VS2 and another is a 2.02 G SI1 that's about $10k less than the ones you posted (if money matters?).

Good Old Gold has 2 H colored stones in stock
1. 2.32, VS-2, H, $28,646.56
2. 2.01, VS-2, H, $24, 818.78

I like the SI-1, G though from WF & goodness, 10K cheaper than the ones you were looking at. Great chance that it''s eye-clean too. But, the 2.32 from Good Old Gold is still cheaper than the G-VS-2''s you came across. Like you said, if you''re going to do it, do it right. LOL An H will be very white, plus you can bet that it will look HUGE on a 1.8mm shank. HUGE.

Have fun!

2 carat diamonds in the G/H color range are very safely *white* and are just fine. I agree that you can save money and sacrifice clarity to the SI range, many are very clean. Don''t sacrifice on cut however, this is most important and will help the color appear more white and bright.

I love your idea of the ritani setting. I love thin bands big diamonds, they make the center stone pop and in general I like more delicate looks.
