** PDF OF EGL REPORT ATTACHED TO POST**

EGL USA certified - Sept. 27, 2007 w/ EGL inscription
1.54
Round
H
SI2 - about 50 tiny white dots, not visible to the human eye, some under table (20)
EGL Ideal
faint fluorescense
polish VG
symmetry VG
58.9% depth
59% table
41.8% pavillion depth
12.8% crown height
32.3% crown angle

I have seen it and it is very brilliant, sparkles like crazy and has no imperfections visible to the human eye. In fact, the imperfections were difficult for me to see with the loupe.

I am about to purchase this/or something soon for an engagement ring, I am very conservative and very cautious and want to get a goof deal, so I wanted to see what all on this site had to say before I pulled the trigger.

$8200

Thanks!

Hi tiggerr11!

I ran the stats on this stone through the Holloway Cut Advisor and it scores 5.1 for total visual performance with ''Good'' light return, ''Fair'' for fire and ''Fair'' for scintillation.

The best cut diamonds will give you a score of under 2, and I would be looking for Ex/Ex/Ex for Light return, fire & scintillation - so I have to say that if it was me, I would reject the stone based on that score.

I would personally prefer to spend the same money on a smaller, ideal-cut stone with much better light performance.

You say you have seen the stone. Have you had the chance to examine it under a variety of lighting conditions, or just in a jewellery store? Even non-so-well-cut stones will look sparkly and lively under the overly bright lights of a store, but will not necessarily perform so well in most day-to-day lighting conditions.

I''m sorry if this isn''t really what you wanted to hear. I''ll have a look for some possible alternatives for you.

Hey - ditto Cleo, I don't think this is the best use of your money. Especially considering that EGL grading might mean that that H is really an I or a J, and the SI2 may be closer to an I1 (EGL tends to be more lax in their grading vs. GIA or AGS).

For my money, I'd try this one:
1.53 I SI2 at Good Old Gold $8791 with PS discount, and MUCH better cut (plus gotta love the lifetime upgrade policy).

ETA - I see Cleo and I were thinking the same thing

Anyway, definitely either of the stones from GOG would be a better bet for maximum performance.

Heehee AmberGretchen - great minds think alike! (And post the same diamonds!)

I got a 2.4 , but maybe I did it wrong.

Thanks.

Welcome Tiger!

You could probably find a tighter / better cut quite easily. However if you have seen this diamond and like it, it may be worth considering, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so it depends on what you want. It sounds as if it could be a very bright diamond, and it sounds like a clean SI2 for the size....So it depends on what you value most.

If you love this diamond, and feel it is a good way to spend your money, as you have seen it, then that is for you to decide. Or you could go a bit smaller and get a better cut diamond. One thing though - please check this diamond out away from the store lights if you can. Also try to compare it to some known excellently cut, AGS0 cut grade, or Hearts on Fire branded diamonds, as these are apparently a good way to see well cut stones to compare. Often inclusions, especially light coloured ones in my experience, can jump out at you in some lights and not others, so make sure you are happy with this rock in ' real life' conditions. Not everyone wants a superideal diamond that we mainly see here, but some just want a fine make ( well cut) diamond which looks sparkly and beautiful. Perhaps if you could let us know which way you would prefer to go with the cut quality, then we could suggest some good alternatives for you.

I am buying it from a guy that supplies local jewelry stores with jewelry. I have seen it inside, outside, under flourescent and regular light bulbs.

It sounds like you have done a thorough job inspecting it ! It depends on what you want. As you have seen this diamond and really like it by the sound of it, if it is what you want, then maybe your search is over. It depends on how you feel most comfortable, not everyone likes the idea of buying online, although many of us have done so with excellent results, some folk just prefer the jeweller''s store! You could find a diamond with a tighter cut, if you want to invest the time and energy in doing so, but the main thing is that you feel you have a beautiful diamond to represent your engagement! We can advise you to look around some more, but if you feel you have found the perfect symbol of your intended betrothal, then mission accomplished!

If it were me, I'd take one of the GOG stones. You won't be disappointed! When we were first looking, I was hesitant to buy online and settled for a subpar stone (GIA VG). After a while (and more education) the stone really started to bother me, so I recently upgraded to a beautiful AGS0 stone from GOG.

Thanks Lorelie.

I like it, but I just want to make sure I am getting a decent bang for my buck. I hate to overspend on something when I could have gotten the same thing or something better for a more reasonable price.

Thanks.

Thanks for the input. The only thing is I think I can talk him down to $8000, and those on GOG are over $9000. That $1000 is the setting. I guess the real question is, is the diamond a decent deal at $8000?

Thanksh

Here is a diamond for around 8k which could be a great buy if eyeclean. The good people at James Allen would be able to advise on whether this diamond is eyeclean or not. Tiger, click by the price of this diamond where it says Pricescope benefits as there could be a discount on the price.

Tiger, if you are set on having the diamond you have seen, I would get an independant appraisal to make sure it checks out for colour and clarity etc, before making the sale final.

Thanks laurelei, I called James Allen on that one and they told me the feather was visible to the eye.

However they have the following one - item No. 1143585 for $8300 with PS discount and bank wire.

Thoguhts?

Thanks.

That is a shame! Never mind, I tried to locate the diamond they suggested and the item number didn''t work, do you have a link for it?

Help anyone:

cleo atated: "I ran the stats on this stone through the Holloway Cut Advisor and it scores 5.1 for total visual performance with ''Good'' light return, ''Fair'' for fire and ''Fair'' for scintillation."

The stats I have are

Depth - 58.9%
Table - 59%
Crown Angle - 32.2 degrees
Pavillion Angle - 40 degrees

I ran it and came up with 2.4

Thoughts?

Not as much brilliance (3.6) as the one I am looking at from my jeweler (2.4)!

Thanks.
Is this the right link??? This is for a 0.53 ct diamond with an AGS report. Also the HCA isn't used for selection, but rather elimination. The aim is to find a diamond which scores 2 or below, then you use other methods such as Idealscope, vendor, photos etc to choose from there. A diamond which scores lower than another doesn't mean it is a better performer necessarily.

No problem. This diamond looks as if it may have potential going by the photo, what is the verdict on this diamond from the guys at James Allen?
