Need Help in Search for My Perfect Diamond

Hello all. I have been shopping for over a month now and made several posts on this forum. Most of my choices have been met with less than entusiatic comments. I really could use some advice on how to go about getting the best diamond for my budget. I would like to spend around $4,500, but would be willing to pay as much as $5,500 for the right diamond.

I think I am pretty much a value guy..ie. I don''t want to pay for what I can''t see. I have been looking for a G/H SI1 stone about 1 ct. with excellent cut specs. I have been using the HCA tool to evaluate this. I really appreciate the expert opinions on this forum. I am actually leaning toward Whitefllash''s Expert Selection line and possibly looking at SI2''s. Does it make sense to drop to this clarity level. Am I on the riight track with what I am looking for?
 
The diamond you have linked is only 0.80 ct and has medium rather than strong blue flourescence. Did you mean to link to a different diamond?
 
how much did you want to spend on a setting?

what city are you in? what shape do you want?
 
I assume it is a round you are looking for? A clean SI2 can be a great choice and the colour range, or even a bit lower as in the diamond below.

I libe between Ann Arbor and Detroit in Michigan, and yes, I would like a round diamond.
 
I think the diamonds Lorelei posted are all nice selections, but there are a few options in your stated preference range.

Here''s one - 1.08 H, SI2 for $5173 (ps price) - If this diamond is eyeclean, could be a FABULOUS selection.

Here''s another - 1.15 G, SI2 for $5353 (ps price) - Again, important to find out if it''s eyeclean, but the numbers look really sweet on this stone also.

If the SI2s aren''t clean, this SI1 might be, and again, the numbers on this are stellar: 1.00 I, SI1 for $4499 (ps price)
 
I think this 1.11 I/SI2 Signature Cut 6.62*6.65*4.11 from James Allen/DCD for 4313$ could be perfect for you if it is eye-clean. I would definitely call and ask.
This 1.07 I/SI2 4742$ 6.64x6.62x4.05 from Good Old Gold looks great too!

I would call and ask the vendors you are considering if they will set your stone for you in the setting you have and if so how much they will charge you. That was if the stone gets damaged in setting you are covered by the vendors insurance.

If I remember correctly, I considered this one for my own upgrade but it was not eye clean.

That''s my old stone. I just traded it in for a 1.21ct I, VS1. If you don''t mind the J color, it definitely is a beautiful stone! And it is totally eye clean.

Oh! I was just looking at this one last night, it looks gorgeous Pebbles! Was the J color a problem for you?
 
I think the only reason the J color was a problem for me was because of the setting it was in. In was in a Scott Kay 3 stone ring and the sides were G color. The difference between the center and sides bothered me. You could see the whole pavillion in that setting, and I am sure I am the only one that noticed the difference in color, and it was only when I tilted the ring at certain angles. I think I was more neurotic than I needed to be about it.

Plus, at the time I was going to trade it in for a princess cut (temporary insanity), but then decided to go with another round. I would consider another J.

ETA -- and this is a totally personal thing, but another reason why I just didn't take that stone back (besides going bigger) was because I wanted a stone with a more cut out girdle, like the "classic" A Cut Above's. My old stone had a more painted girdle, like the "new line" ACA's. That stone had a ton of fire; this new one I have has a bit less, but my old one is not considered "bad" by any means. It just had (to me anyway) a different look than the new one I have.

I''m going to search for pics, but perhaps you could post a link? Thanks pebbles! I''m just totally interested in seeing Js and Ks next to Gs and Hs. The K diamond that I''ll hopefully be getting in this week (!!!) was compared to a G diamond at WF and she said it was hard to tell a difference from the top view. From the side, she said she could slightly see some warmth. Anyways, off to search for your pics!
 
I don''t know if my pics show a good shot of the pavillion. I think the thread is in SMTR and it is called something like "thanks to Pearlman''s! My Scott Kay 3 stone ring" from Dec. 2005.

Personally, I think J''s and K''s are so hard to judge from computer monitors. My J had much more color in person than I saw on the screen. Not that it was totally yellow, but I think it had more than I expected.
