I am looking to find a ideale cut and quality 1.8-2.0 brilliant stone for the mrs. I would like to get a h and a, f/g color, vs1-vs2, excellent polish and symmetry and cert by ags or gia along with all the attributes listed under "gogs" tests. I have looked around the different sites as well as have a "friend" in the business looking for me. I''d like to get a better idea as to pricing as to this stone. I''ve seen some for 12k and some as high as 21k. I would like some info as to pricing as well as best reliable people to call or sites to visit to pinpoint a closer price range for this quality. Thanks in advance, John

PQ thanks for finding these stones for me. If you don't mind I have a few quick questions. If its a heart and arrows does that indicate its a high quality stone that you KNOW your getting a near perfect stone. Can you deal with these dealers online? What does I mean under fluoresence? Thanks big time for your help, John

Well, I hope PQ doesn't mind me responding.

John, H&A means great, unusual internal symmetry. It can be more or less precise, but it doesn't guarantee a near perfect diamond. There are many more factors to consider: proportions, finish, internal symmetry, precision of the pattern and idealscope image. Last but not least, *visual* examination. Remember, you're buying a diamond, not a fancy piece of paper.

That said, PQ has provided you with links of diamond that I wouldn't exitate to call nearly perfect.

Second, 'I' in fluorescence means less than faint, a negligible amout of fluorescence.

The diamonds I posted links to all happen to be H&A's because those were the ones available that met your criteria for color and clarity, polish, and symmetry. Except the one H color stone, that is. There are several more SI1 and SI2 diamonds available as well. Not all are H&A's, but all are very good cuts.

Giangi explained the patterns. It takes specific, internal optical symmetry to produce hearts and arrows. The H&A patterns can be present even when a diamond is not Ex/Ex or Id/Id.

"I" for fluorescence stands for "Inert" meaning the diamond has little to no fluorescence. Another term you may see is "Negligible".

As far as negotiating prices,..... You can ask. All they can do is say "No". I will tell you that internet Vendors are already working on very low profit margins. Much lower than most local B&M stores. Local B&M's may make one large sale in a month, so they tend to maximize their profit on that sale. Internet Vendors have a lower/stone margin and sell many more diamonds.
