I need some help evaluating the following diamond:

Shape: Cushion Brilliant
Carat Weight: 1.5
Cut: EXCELLENT
Color: I
Clarity: SI1
Certificate: GIA
Depth %: 62.8
Table %: 61
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 7.34*6.47*4.06
Length/Width Ratio: 1.13

Also, the GIA certificate has the following comments:

- Additional clouds are not shown
- Crown angles are greater than 40 degrees.

I was told that the comments ''Crown angles are greatrer than 40 degrees'' is a guarantee for a real high crown and most likely a very lively diamond. Is this true?

I am looking for an Excellent cut Cushion Brilliant, which this is. I was ideally looking for a color of G or H and a Clarity in the VS1 to VS2 range.

Do you think the dimensions and I, SI1 characteristics warrant this to be a nice stone? Would passing on this one so I can try to find a G or H and VS1 or VS2 be a good idea or would the differences be so subtle that it wouldn''t make sense to look for only one color and clarity grade away?

Does this high crown angle comment compensate for the lesser quality in color and clarity than what I am looking for and would it justify this as a good fit for me that offers nice fire and brilliance?

Any thoughts or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

- Additional clouds are not shown This is not uncommon, provided the grade making inclusions are not clouds you should be ok. Often one sees the remark " additional clouds not shown" this is not usually an issue unless it says " clarity grade is based on additional clouds or clouds not shown,' then that might be an issue in SI clarities. You will also need to check very carefully that the diamond is eyeclean to your standards, have you seen it in person or is it offered for sale with an online vendor?

- Crown angles are greater than 40 degrees.

I was told that the comments 'Crown angles are greatrer than 40 degrees' is a guarantee for a real high crown and most likely a very lively diamond. Is this true? Crown height is the important measurement here. The comment on crown angles greater than 40 degrees is commonly seen on fancy shape reports but to the best of my knowledge is not an indication of anything where performance or beauty is concerned. If you could get the crown height by asking the seller to run a Sarin scan on the diamond, that would be helpful. What is the girdle thickness too please?

No way to tell without images, preferably an ASET image and some detailed photos of the diamond are needed, otherwise all the numbers give are a chalk outline of the stone.
If you are unfamiliar with ASET and its use, this page explains.

Does this high crown angle comment compensate for the lesser quality in color and clarity than what I am looking for and would it justify this as a good fit for me that offers nice fire and brilliance? See above. Also it is ALL the proportions working together that dictate whether a diamond will be a beautiful one or not, so really images are crucial if you can get them. Cushions can vary tremendously in type and appearance so unless you have seen it in person, images are essential too so you can make sure it is the type of cushion you want.

Any thoughts or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

1) First decide what your budget is and get a fair idea from the Pricescope search if your specs are within your budget.
2) Go on Vimeo.com and search for "rhino cushion" and watch some videos to decide which type of cushion you like best.

You need to decide on Shape (retangular or Square), Facet Pattern (8 main, 4 main, chunky antique, chucnky modern, hearts and arrows etc.) and on if you want a signature cut or not.

3) Then come back to us with that information or call Jon at Goodoldgold.com(only place to get GOG signature Old Mine Cuts, they show you videos of everything and the most information by far), Mark at Engagementringsdirect(good prices and a keen eye for 8 Main Cushion Brilliants), Bob at Whiteflash(good prices and a nice selection of modern 4 main cushions).

Its going to be much easier to get one from those three vendors then to just to find you a nice cushion with the look you want by trying to do it yourself.
In any case from any vendor before you purchase get an ASET and a Good Magnified picture and if you post them here we can comment on your choice and how likely it will be to fit your visual preferences. If you can see your selections in person that would really help as well but nothing will be better than going and looking at cushions in real life to decide what you really like and comparing them.

CCL
