I am looking for a 2.01 to 2.05 ct H/VS2/Excellent Cut /GIA , None to Faint Fluorescence around $15000 to 16000. Is it possible to find a good diamond in this price range? with a basic platinum ring(1200 ish) and tax I am trying to keep me under the 19K overall budget.

I can pay cash if the discount is more than 2% to offset the credit card cashback.

I started with a local B&M price a 2.0 ct/H/VS2/Ex cut/GIA, No Fluorescence around $21,000. I have the GIA cert number 1305062525. I can try to get this price down a few more thousand but want to know if I can get it under 17K.

I started with searching on Blue Nile and eventually found PriceScope :wavey: and stopped talking to the Local B&M until I get my options figured out.

Here are the comparisons I found. I read that fluorescence impacts price but may not have a big effect on VS2/VS1. still reading and learning a lot but I am running out of time so I thought the experts can help me.

Can you link us to the cert for the b&m diamond, and did you run all of these theoigh the HCA? USA certed can sometimes get you aset/IS images , which I recommend to double check performance of the stone.

Also, does it need to be vs2, or is eye clean SI1 ok? If eye clean SI1 and I color is ok, there are super ideal diamonds in your price range and preferred size. If not, it's a little more tircky.

We would most likely not recommend the stone at your local jeweler. High pavilion with large table. Here is the report check for anyone who wants to look.

How do you feel about "I" color? I'm not really finding much in your budget/color wishes.

Run all rounds through this tool. https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca

Discard anything over 2.

Anything under 2 may or may not have good light performance... need to check more images.

The first one from the B+M store scores a POOR 4.9 hca. Light leakage apparent.

Run fast away from that one.

Use these parameters when searching for a stone. Click on advanced search
Gia excellent:

Depth 60-62.3

Table 54-57

Pavilion 40.6 to 40.9

Crown 34-35

Thanks for linking the report! I wouldn't consider the b&m one at all. If you'd consider I, you could get a super ideal from WF. I'd have them take pics/video to see if this one is actually eye clean.

You could do this mount for under 1,000

Or this 6 prong style for 1250

We do have good recommendations for using Martin at USA certified diamonds. He also understands the HCA tool and he will find you a good diamond. He does not have an upgrade policy.

If you want to look at smaller but super ideal diamonds with max light return, there is this one, but it’s still in Antwerp. You’d have to call and see when it would be ready

https://www.hpdiamonds.com/en-us/diamonddetail/HPD10753

1.80 I Si1 wire $15,399 80% lifetime buyback policy and generous upgrade policy. It’s not in your stated parameters, but it’s worth a read on their website and a look. All CBI diamonds are eyeclean. This will be a gorgeous stone and will appear whiter than a regular GIA I color. In other words, you can’t compare it to a mall diamond or even probably a B&M store.

I’d also check Whiteflash and see what they have. It is worth considering going down a bit in size to get proven light performance.

You also have to check MM dimensions over carat weight.

The first one you gave us with the 4.9 HCA is
8.12 - 8.16 x 4.91 mm

Totally worth losing some color/size (as long as it's within reason) to get better light performance. The better cut stones look bigger and whitrr!

I agree with going slightly smaller to get a better cut. Plus, if you go just under the 2 carat mark, you’ll avoid the 2 carat point price jump ... all with no noticeable decrease in size ... will still look like a 2 carat.

Thanks for all the replies and info. it has been quite an education on the last 2 days :read:...The more you know, the more you know you don't know

I started with the basics 4 C's and then ran into the HCA tool on beyond4C's website. I noticed the HCA on the 2.0 was 4.79 which is where I stopped and started looking for more info..:geek:

The B&M one was my first ask at 2 carat, we were originally looking at a 1.79 H/VS2 (GIA-6194837100) and trying to jump to 2 for some more money. The 1.79 one we saw in person and it looked meh (HCA is 5.7 :eek2:) . The price B&M was ready to sell for 15,800. We bought from the B&M in the past and has an upgrade policy, other than that online seems to be the best way to go. I can push the B&M for a price match if I can get the right parameters and find something similar.

H/I - If there is no visible difference then I is ok for us.

VS2/SI1 - This also looks like an easy jump, if the eye clean SI1 looks same as VS2. we bought H/VS2 earrings in the past and were using the same guideline.

Carat - we can look at 1.9 if everything else works. I was looking for 1.9 to 2.05 and did not find a whole lot in the 1.9 - 2.0 range. I agree the MM dimension is important than carat.

Does the AGI Vs GIA cert also factor into price?

Budget- If I am within striking distance of getting a really good 2ish carat I can stretch the budget a little bit. I started with a 15k - 18K line in the sand but can go up to 20K ish considering everything else.

Hi @damon2 ... I have been looking at the Whiteflash site, and I’m having trouble finding VS2 and SI1 diamonds in H-I in your budget range that don’t have the kiss of death “additional clouds not shown” ... although some still look nice and clear in the videos, I know that I would hesitate at this clarity with that comment, especially when cloud is the primary grading inclusion.

I did find this G in Expert Selection ... a bit smaller than you wanted but just under $20,000. This would give you a vendor with a great trade-up policy. The Expert Selection is AGS graded and ACA near miss ... I think the one below is quite beautiful. Sorry I couldn’t find more that I thought I would buy myself.
https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-4060811.htm

Generally speaking, people pay a bit more for AGS graded stones ... it tends to be that the best diamonds are sent to this lab, and when buying online, the light performance evaluation basically guarantees that the diamond will be a great performer. Still, many fabulous stones are sent to GIA ... GIA rounds numbers on their certificates and does not provide light performance evaluation, so it’s a harder guessing game without light performance images.

"Clouds not shown" is only the kiss of death if no one is checking performance/impwct of the clouds for you. WF has their ACA/ES/PS stones in house and will look at them to help buyers. And if it's an ACA I wouldn't worry at all, bc there's no way they would sell a poorly performing or cloudy diamond in their highest end line.

Thanks for this @lovedogs! I love ACAs but really wasn’t sure about this one. I stand corrected!

FWIW, I wouldn't buy an SI2 where clouds were the reason for the grade. But just like CBI, I trust WF to be honest about clarity/inclusions, etc. So I don't worry about ACA stones, especially when eye clean. That said , if one is worried about clouds, etc, then the nice thing about in house stones is having reps pull the stones and take pics and videos .

I found someone local who was willing to work with me to find a better diamond. Here is a GIA cert number 6322160341 for an excellent cut, I, VVS2. HCA rating is 1.2. priced around 16K and meets my budget.

I am attaching the images I received for this diamond. Can you please let me know if this is good purchase that I can go for?

I think the one you found from WF has a better ASET image, and comes with a $1 upgrade policy. On such a big purchase, that's what I'd choose. But this one certainly isn't bad!
