Hi eveyone,

Pricescope has been a huge help in researching about diamonds and a wealth full of knowledge.
I''m more comfortable in choosing a great diamond now

There''s two princess cut diamonds that I''m looking at right now and they both look great, the only thing is on diamond 2, there is a slight circle/bump near the bottom left of the table. I''m not sure if this actually on the diamond or just a drop of water (maybe).

Diamond 1 seems to have more leakage based on the ASET images compared to Diamond 2, unfortunately, there''s not much red on these diamonds...

Out of these 2 diamonds, which one would you get?

Thanks a lot for your help

I think JA's ASET set up is off calibration, as the owner recently says so, so difficult to say what the images actually means. Can you request an appointment with JA's gemologist to look at this 2 stones for you?

I''ll give them a shout. we let you know once I get some more information.

Hi Primus

The bump you refer to is probably an inclusion, ask JA if it is visible in reality ( probably not). These look like nice Princess but aren't cut to the highest standards, what type of cut are you looking for exactly, the best you can get? What are the polish and symmetry grades of these?

Thank you, stone-cold, for your comment about the ASET being off. There is indeed an inherent problem with photographing ASET''s, especially princess-cuts, and it really takes some understanding of the subject and an adjustment in the set-up in order to receive factually correct ASET-pics.

Here, we see dark areas in the actual pic becoming green. As such, one can deduce that some factual green has also become red in the pic, and even that some factual red has become blue. It has to do with the ASET-cone being incorrectly positioned in relation to the stone, and especially with princess-cuts, this poses the most problems. I even fear that the official AGS-photo-setup does not allow for the fine-tuning necessary.

Looking at these pics, however, it definitely shows us that an Idealscope for a princess-shape clearly offers us insufficient info to judge the diamond.

I hope that the difficulties of ASET-photographing will be overcome, anyway.

Hi Lorelei and everyone,

Based on the GIA cert and on JA website, the cut is ideal, which is based on their site the second highest next to their TrueHeart cut, because of this, I figure that the diamond should sparkle pretty good. As for the grade of the polish and summetry, its excellent and very good respectively.

I won''t be able to talk to their gemologist till next next week.

Is there anything else that I should be looking for?

AGS is the lab which made the word “ideal” reputable. GIA does not issue a grade of ideal so the use of “ideal” in this situation refers to an in-house standard. No company can tell another how to assign words (Sizzler uses “prime filet” as do high-end restaurants offering a completely different standard of “prime filet”) but these diamonds could not earn the “ideal” grade by AGS standards. Many cut-focused sellers avoid such use of the word “ideal,” both to respect for the standards AGS imposed to build that word’s positive reputation, and to avoid confusing consumers.

Deducing that they will sparkle well because unknown standards have resulted in a personal ideal-notification, is a bridge too far. Especially in princess-cuts, where the average cut-quality is deplorably low, it is a factor to ignore, not to value.

Hi Primus

Actually it isn't the case that the cut is ideal but Paul has addressed this so nothing to add! If you are happy with the cut quality of these Princess, ask for one of JA's gemologists to look at both and advise you.
