Hi All,

We're in the market for @ 1ct Round Diamond for my wives Gold Torsion Setting Ring.

We've found a Diamond from a dealer we seem to trust.
The stone looks great to us and is in our price range ($4,000).

Is this a good deal?
Yes or no please let me know why.

Your opinions could help us pull the trigger.

where do you want me to start?
the stone is out of round... :knockout:
flat top no crown height... :knockout:
a huge 70% table... :knockout:
44.9% pavil is too deep... :knockout:

tell your dealer .... if he sells this stone he'll be thrown in jail for the rest of his life :!:
 
oh my gosh, the cut on this stone is terrible. please do not purchase it.

also, EGL is known to grade 'soft'...I would stick with GIA or AGS so you know what you are getting.
 
Is this a round diamond? I'm asking because the dimensions of this stone are more like those of an oval or a roval stone. This is what Dancing Fire means when he says the diamond is out of round. Also, in a round diamond, you do not want the table to be larger than the depth of the diamond. At 70%, the table of this diamond is very large. Ditto. Find another dealer. Anyone who is even TRYING to pass this off to you is not to be trusted. WOW that is a bad stone. Incredibly bad.

AND to top it off the girdle is very thin-- which you ABSOLUTELY do not put into a tension setting!!!

This person is out to take advantage of your obvious ignorance. And is not in anyway doing anything to help anyone but himself.
 
I agree with the others, this is not a well cut diamond. I also want to encourage you to seek more education here on PS before going further, because a well cut stone over 1ct will cost substantially more than $4k. For that budget you can likely get a well cut 0.80ct diamond, or a larger one with some "compromise" on clarity of color. But please do not compromise on cut!

I agree with the others that I wouldn't buy that first stone at any price. Here are some very general parameters for excellent cut stones:

table: 54-58
depth 60- 62.3
crown angle 34.0-35.0
pavilion angle: 40.6-41.0
girdle: thin, medium, slightly thick

Stick with GIA reports as EGL is know to be unreliable.
 
No. Not unless you want K color and SI2 clarity. Your budget isn't sufficient for what you want, I'm sorry.

A tension setting requires a good girdle and no feathers. So most SI2s are going to have black carbon or feathers. So that will rule them out. Possibly one with clouds might be oaky.

You can try to see if any of these score under 2 on the HCA. If so ask the gemologist at JA if they will be eyeclean AND safe for a tension setting:

Of course, even if they score over 2 on the HCA they are still better than the one your 'trusted' jeweler offered you.

Any diamond that scores under 2 on the HCA and has a GIA Ex for cut in the lab report is good. Get an idealscope image from the vendor.

Also any diamond that has an AGS lab report with an ideal for light return is good (no need for an idealscope image).
