Hi all...

Love the board, sometimes I just read for hours.... But I''ve got a dillemma on my hands (ha ha - no pun intended).... A good dilemma, though and I need all the help I can get here.

My diamond-loving DH is going to buy me another diamond ring (I already have a 1.57 E VS2 engagment round and a 3.10 E SI2 pear(- for my 5 year ) but he knows I love diamonds and wants to get me another one (we''ll be married 10 years next October and I just gave birth to our first daughter 4 months ago).....Anyhoo that is my story, I need some opinions, photos and help here....

I want an awesome ring. I know everyone has tastes, but I really want a ring with size, brilliance and fire. My DH asked what stone has the best brilliance and I said of course a round, but what would be the next best thing (since I have a round)...

Here''s what I have in mind...

4-5 carats
D-F coloring
no lower that SI 1
No flourescence
and perfect (either ideal, hearts and arrows, etc) proportions...
GIA certified

My DH is willing to shell out ALOT, I know it will cost alot with our wish list above, but I need your help finding me a stone.

I love the jubilee and the regents I''ve read about, I love high set settings to show off the stone.... I love pears as side stones, maybe hearts (love them too)...

Any advice here...

Where should I start. Any and all advice needed. Since this is going to be a major, major investment, I really want something with bling. Both my other rings have wonderful fire and brilliance, and I definatley want that.....I don''t care for marquis, but I''m open to look at all others).....

...or should I just get another big round since I love the fire, with a neat setting (my round is set as a solitare in gold so something different) I''m in the platnium mood now.... I love three stone rings,

What do you all think....

Can you help me finding a "on-fire" brilliant stone with those specs...

Also, since we''ll be spending so much, should we buy online?

Thanks so much ya''ll.....

Have you seen Windowshopper's ring and story ? Although her ring carries an emerald cut, it does match the profile you describe ... an elegant, flamboyant piece.

One of the H&A squares would be great, of course. I doubt there are current online listings of such stones, but this does not mean they do not exist - all it may take is asking.

As for buying online, sure, why not. You will not be the first to acquire an imporatnt piece after first contacting the seller online (I am not talking about automatic shipping via shopping basket and cc payment, OMG!).

You might want to take a look down this link at the virtual display cases of one of the makers listing pieces befitting the description of your desired ring. Icestore and Karen Bleifer's sites might help as well.

Since you also mention a round, how about something like this 4 cts F/VS1 ... A particularly glamorous setting recently done for a smaller stone would definitely grace the wonder:

It may not bea esy to fit pear sidestones next to a large round and keep it all in balance, but it surely has been done before. Can you imagine a version of this covered with diamonds ? If you like pave, that is.

The centre stone of this ring is about 5 cts, with pears just below carat each according to the original catalog, so 4cts should definitely be feasible with more intricate metal work. For example, a similar shank profile covered with diamonds might look like this:

It is not very hard to imagine a clorless round in this setting... the sides are rather large bullet shape diamonds in this example, but I cannot imagine why pears or hearts could not be used instead if you so wish.

I surely hope you will give a hint on the forum about the progress of your shopping !

I''d pick the 4.126ct F/VS1 in a heartbeat... It''s drop dead gorgeous and ''''on fire''''

! There aren''t many options in this range available online. Your best bet would be to call a few vendors and ask them to track down a few stones according to your desires.

As for the setting, a look that I really love is a big round flanked by heart shaped diamonds, if you want to be a little original, or the classical trilliants if you want to stick to something more usual.

Thanks so much, amazing rings... I do like the round F color one, I''m going to keep that in mind...

I did a little more looking today and think I would like to find, the same specs above, but in a

jubilee
HOF or
Regents

I like the round, but with the clipped corners so it almost looks like a round but it isn''t... (since my engagment ring is round) I think I like the big stone, with some pears or hearts at the side (not pave, maybe to hard to keep shiny, I don''t know). Does anyone have a picture of one of the stones above with pears or hearts at the side....

The cushion is beautiful, but can it be a hearts and arrow stone? Fire is the most important thing....

Also, can you help me find a stone with my specs above? (in a jubilee, HOF, or regents). I think I''m sold on the hearts and arrow things and would like a squarish if possible. Do you think they have those stones in such a large size?

Any help appreciated... If not, that F diamond is looking good, and I love, love the round stone you posted with the pears on the side.... Any more rounds fitting my critera...

Thanks,
Trish

If you do a search for cushions at the top of the page, there are many options in larger stones....I don''t know "what" tobuy in a cushuion, but you could contact one of the vendors...Whiteflash is know to be good to work with......
Good luck!!!!

WOW!....that''s amazing....

That stone is way, way to big for my finger (I can''t believe I''m writing that)..

Actually, my DH wants it under $100,000 so there is a limit....

I want cut quality before size, I have a 3.10 that looks great on my finger, so I don''t really need a lot bigger, but he would like it somewhat bigger.

I want it bigger than 3.00, so bigger than my current one, but the fire is what I want...

That stone has fire, but 7 carats, not for me...

Thanks for posting...

Keep em coming...

Just picking ideas from all the threads above:

- I don't remember to have seen such a large regent around here... let alone with heart shaped sides.

- HOF is just a round H&A and I suspect their price is not as great as H&As around here.

- There is a H&A cut cushion (you must have seen the pages at GoodOldGold, that's what I am talking about)

- If fire is the most important, than you might be better served by a different cut than H&A - especially if the diamond will not be a round. It just so happens that the lucky range of proportions for round brilliants yields that H&A pattern (the reverse is not true even for rounds). "Optimal" proportions in other cut designs but the round brilliance might produce some pattern, but it is not H&A and such patterns have not been marketed as a guarantee of quality for other shapes. Perhaps the various kaleidoscope patterns were not deemd as romantic as "harts and arrows"

- 100k would mean 5 cts and above to me

Perhaps enlisting an appraiser to advise on what represents a good price point would help. Even if you do not want a ring more than 3 cts, it can't hurt to know what makes a good buy. A professional, impartial opinion doesn't even cost much in this case.

- Speaking of heart sides... I love them, not least because the look is rarely done. It may be difficult to find an example with a rectangular / square center and heart sides online. Here's one:

I wish I knew of others with colorless diamonds only. Of this, there are more pictures at source (LINK).

Wow - that is such a fun project! you are a lucky girl!!
Have you considered an OEC? It''s round and brilliant in it''s own way, but still diffrent from an RB. (Just a thought).

My personal choice if this awesome opportunty were to fall in my lap would be a perfectly square cushion or an Oval with half moon sides. Mmmmm, can''t wait to see what you decide!

Trishy...have you absolutely ruled out entirely different cuts...like a fabulous asscher?

I think some emerald cuts (especially asschers) can be just as spectacular as rounds, cushions, etc., but in an intirely different way.

If it were me, I''d want a stone really different (but still stunning) from the treasures I already had...

if your''re going with a round shape, maybe GOG (Jon) can find you a Solasfera H&A stone.the 91 facet stone maybe the one for you.

I am so excited about my new ring quest also.....

Gosh, the yellow with the heart diamonds is a beautiful setting. I'm not a fan on yellows, but it that baby was pink....ugh... it would be way over my budget...

I think I'm going to do what you said....I think we're going to go see some "big boys" in person and see what looks good on my hand. Since this is probably the last "biggie" I'm going to get, I don't mind HUNTING for some time. I just have to make sure DH doesn't spend my $$$ on something else.... Hmmmm...maybe I should do this quick.

I live in tn and we DO NOT have large stones around here. We may make a trip to vegas soon (I'm making a new post about another ring delimma - see my newest thread for that) so we'll start looking there............We've never been to NY, but DH is game and diamond hunting would be a blast.....

My DH does change moods quickly so I'd better not drag my feet too long, but I want to get what I love, and I also want a jewelr that lets me "trade Up" in diamonds that's very important in case I change my mind.

I don't want bigger than a 5 carat, my finger is a size 6 and I don't want it to look too big...

How is the brilliance on a good cushion cut? I'm usually not a fan of EC but didiamond has an amazing rock. Honestly I really need to see some of these fancy cuts in person, so I think we're going on a jewelry trip VERY SOON...

I've got a 4 1/2 month old daughter and I keep telling my DH that the jewlery isn't for ME any more, it's for "us" (my daughter and I)....Maybe that's why his new generosity...

Help me out with my pink diamond dilemma also...

I'll keep you posted on my quest ......
Thanks so much,
