Hi everyone-

My girlfriend has done some preliminary research and these forums have been so helpful, so thanks so much already for the education.

At this point, I am taking over the process so it's a bit more of a surprise. I am looking to buy an elongated cushion cut diamond to be placed in a traditional knife edge solitaire engagement setting. The following are the ranges in which we are interested:

Budget: about $12,000

Carat: 2.0 we know that spread is most important with cushions, so I just want it to face up nicely with a sizable spread for nice coverage on her 5.25 finger.

Clarity: VS2 + (willing to go with SI1 & confirmed eye clean)

Cut: Very Good/Excellent/Ideal or equivalent (still a bit unclear on how cut is to be judged on cushions though--that's why you all are so helpful in this). Definitely want fire and a nice, sparkly diamond.

Color: Flexible. Would prefer near colorless range but am open if a great cut and/or paired with some florescence (or your expert opinions suggest it's a good call).

Floresence: That said, I'm not picky about florescence, in fact, my girlfriend often likes it. Obviously, I would like to avoid a "milky" look to the stone.

L:W ratio: Approx. 1.15-1.30 range, preferably a nice, long, shape, definitely not square.
As for the faceting patterns, we are both fans of a chunkier pattern and not so much the "crushed ice" look.

I know this seems like a lot of restrictions. None are really hard and fast (except not wanting a square cushion) and wanting 1.5ct.+. Help?

Thanks so much, can't wait to see what you can find.

I'm mostly a lurker here but I was looking for another thread and came across this one, looks like you got lost in the pile a bit.

You have any luck so far? Unfortunately, cushions aren't really my thing, but hopefully someone else can chime in.
Have you checked out any online retailers? Some of these may be a good starting point. You can even call and have them pull stones for you.

Find some you like and post links here, and maybe we can provide some feedback for you before you buy.
Good luck!

Also: anyone have ideas for this chap? Rocky Racoon? Gypsy? tyty333? You seem to know your cushions...

I'm not finding too much at JA that fits in budget/size/color. I am having to drop size and color to "I" to find anything decent.

These are my favorite...

I'll take a look around at other vendors. I an also look more at JA in G/H range but smaller size or lower clarity to stay in budget.

Ok, I thought I'd at least try to help. These meet your specs but don't have photos, videos, or ASET images. You'd certainly have to talk to someone about taking a look at these (and verifying they're eye clean).

Your best bet may still be just calling Good old Gold or one of the others and having them track you down some stones that fit your criteria. If you do get some images, you can definitely post them here for feedback.

Oh gosh, I totally missed you were looking for an elongated cushion...ignore all those square ones I pointed out :cheeky: !
