A friend is shopping for a Round diamond and is hoping that it will be anywhere between 1.55ct to 1.65.

Can someone help shop some really nice stones online that fit the specs of a great diamond. Some specs:

Color- F,G, or H
Clarity - A good SI1 and Eye Clean
Cut - Should be Very Good, or Excellent

How much will a diamond of these specs cost roughly? He was considering anywhere in the $10K range.

Can someone help find some decent stone options?
Thanks

How much better of a stone will $11,000 buy?

You probably won''t get any better than that 1.40 that I posted. To get any better (I assume you mean color and/or clarity) at that size, it''s going to bring the price up to more than 11000.00

Here''s an example of what I mean.

Ok, this is not a TRUE comparison, because the other WF stone was an ES, but they don''t have what I need. However, it will still give you an idea. An ES stone would still be over 12000.00 This is just going up one color grade to G, keeping it as SI1.

this is going up one color, and one clarity.

Honestly, for the size range he''s looking, that 1.4 is his best bet. It''s a noticable size, but you aren''t paying the premium price. That''s what I went for as well.

Wow, so to get a really nice 1.50 to 1.55 is around 13K to 15K from those stones you showed. He definitely doesn''t want to spend that.

What does ES Stand for? Sorry, I''ve learned diamonds like crazy and know a good amount as the average shopper, but I don''t know them all :)

No problem, there''s a LOT to learn!

ES stands for Expert Selection. These are stones from WF that just missed making their branded diamond A Cut Above, usually (but not always) for reasons we people couldn''t even see. They don''t carry quite the premium price the brandeds do.

Really nice is subjective. There are REALLY nice J SI1 stones out there, it''s just a matter of what color and clarity one wants, with cut being first and foremost. The higher up you go, the more it costs.

Now, if he would go under 1.5, then he could go up a smidge in color and/or clarity, or both if he goes small enough.

Just wanted to mention that this one (which Ellen already posted) is $10185 with the wire/pricescope discount.

He''s for sure not looking at higher than H SI1 if he wants to go over 1.5 cts. in an excellent cut stone. And cut is the most important factor, so he shouldn''t compromise on that. I do think that G VS 1.4 stone is an excellent value and that size is very hard to find!

Alright, you can give us a MAX dollar amount and ideal size and we can help....I bought a gorgeous 1.74 eye clean Si1 H Ex Ex Ex stone for 12500, so its doable

I just got a 1.76 H color SI-1(eyeclean) round for about $ 9000(CDN) which would be even less in US $$'s

So there might be hope to find a really nice diamond in that range???:)

The guy I am buying my diamond from showed my friend a really nice looking spread of diamonds. This was one in the $10K range he was considering, but people on the boards said it may be a bit deep, and the pavilion angle is not very impressive. He really wants to stay in the $10K range, but may go as high as $10,500 or something. He is hoping for something that is at least a G or H, but may consider an I but would be happier if it were a G or H, SI1 and it should be a VG or EX cut if possible. The diamond should also be eye clean. Are there decent diamonds along these lines?

He would probably be happy with anything over 1.50ct, but would like to be over 1.60ct if at all possible, WITHOUT sacrificing too much. I understand that there is ALWAYS a sacrifice so I want to be sure he is making them in the right areas.

Here are 2 diamonds he saw and to the eye were very nice.

This approach may be safest...

but...you could also try this resource...the Price Stats tool above under Prices.

This option is just above $10,5 based on wire pricing...and gets you above 1.5 and F SI 1. Suggested...look for GIA...which will follow the EGL, once you sort for price.

Sure, at lower color and clarity. But from what you posted he''s looking for, no. You just can''t get a WELL CUT G or H over 1.5 for 10,000.00, unless you maybe go TOO low on clarity.

These two stone don''t have good numbers, as said before. That''s why they are less. He is better off going with a stone that''s really well cut with great numbers, that is a tad smaller.

The thing is, a well cut 1.5 is NOT going to look any bigger on the finger than a well cut 1.4. There is not much size difference, at all.

Does the jeweler carry any AGS stones?

I have a well cut 1.63 and the diameter is 7.6mm. You lose diameter when the stones are deep. So the size looks smaller than it should. He needs to focus more on the diameter than the carat weight. Why pay for a 1.5 that looks like a 1.4, or whatever? May as well buy the 1.4!

The H SI1 stone that Ellen posted from WF is still the best bet. It is right at $10,000. Don''t think he''ll do much better at that price.
