I have been looking for MONTHS for a setting that my fiance enjoys, and have finally found one.

http://www.zales.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4458025&kpc=1#details

The problem is, I cannot purchase this setting without the center stone, and would hate to lose money by being forced to buy such a crappy stone (GIA I-J; I2). I have looked everywhere, and cannot find a similar setting which has the two sets of 3 stones leading up to the center stone with the "swirl" design curving up to the prongs.

If anyone can point me in the direction of a similar setting without the stone or with a better one I would HIGHLY appreciate it, as my head is about to explode at this point :)

Other suggestions are welcome too, such as, is it possible to sell that crappy stone that it comes with, and if so, how much would I lose by doing so?

Thanks in advance guys :)

did she pick this one out? there are a lot of settings with the three small diamonds but i am not sure of one with the 'swirl' design. you could always get something custom made?

Is the setting her choice? It won't allow for a flush fit band which is important to some people.

What is your setting budget?

She did decide on this one, and the non flush band is not a huge deal because she will only wear this ring on occasion or by itself.

My budget for a setting similar to this without a stone would be any price up to the cost of this ring, hopefully cheaper though. If this stone does come with a certificate, how much could I hope to get by selling it. I'm guessing not much.

Thanks for the help guys, I really do appreciate it a LOT!

I definitely think you could have that setting custom made for that price, or less! It'd have to be a little bit different - they can't make an exact copy, but you can definitely keep the same look and feel. The finish doesn't look all that great, honestly, and I don't like the very square shank with the very curvy top - but stuff like that is really easy to tweak w/ CAD/CAM.

You are probably not going to get much by selling the diamond it comes with. I don't know if Zales does this still but at one point i was looking at their setting but I have an heirloom diamond. They said I would have to purchase the entire ring (diamond and setting) and they would buy the diamond back from me. I never went through the process because I found Pricescope and realized that it would have been a mistake. I suggest looking into custom making a ring similar to this, it will be worth what you pay and it will be more beautiful than the Zales version.

I've never seen a band that looks like that. I have seen the cluster of diamonds before. I would go with what the other PSers say...have it custom made. Don't buy at Zales. You'll regret it. I think buying the ring and selling the diamond would not be a good investment for you. It will take way too much time and hassle to try and unload the I2 diamond.

Also, maybe you can take her shopping again online at some of the recommended PS vendors or to a better Brick & Mortar store instead of the mall. Maybe she liked this setting best out of the selection she had to choose from at Zales??
