Hey PS,

I just found this site yesterday and have been reading NON-STOP! However, I still claim to know nothing

As the title says, I know that my gf of 2 years wants a cushion cut. I''m working with a budget up to $2k just for the rock. I''m having a real hard time finding a cushion cut within that budget. Most of all I''ve seen are .9+ ct. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much guys!

Hi Edwin and welcome!

The easiest way for you to find a lovely cushion could be for you to have expert help, I would suggest contacting Mark at
www.engagementringsdirect.com he is known as the Cushion King for good reason, he has found countless stunning cushions for many happy PSers.

Also Jon at www.goodoldgold.com also has sold some beautiful cushions. I would contact one of these guys, tell them what you are looking for and your budget, and see what they can come up with for you. They can also supply detailed photos for you to see and other images such as ASET which are so useful for judging the cut quality of these diamonds.

Lastly, you can''t judge a cushion by the numbers, they need to be seen, so do take advantage of skilled advice where you can.

Save yourself the agony of the hunt, ;-) and call Mark with Engagement Rings Direct, in NYC. He is the best when looking for cushions.

thanks to the both of you for the replies! in reading older threads regarding cushion cuts, i got the hint that mark is one of the best for cushion cut :)

in your experience, is it feasible to get a nice cushion cut at $2k?

You should be able to find a cushion between .75 and .90 around H, VS2 - SI1 for that budget.

Not so sure about that in a well cut modern cushion, might have to drop it a bit for $2k. Mine was $3,000 2 years ago and is a .81 G VS2. But you can certainly get something beautiful for $2K.

We also worked with Mark. He was fabulous!

Mark''s site is down right now (seems like he is upgrading his search tool and diamond database). I personally liked using the search engine at http://www.adiamor.com/. Mark has access to most of the stones on that site.

Welcome, Edwin!

Not sure of the exact look of the cushion you''re looking for but here are a couple to consider:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1131333.asp

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1132767.asp

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Cushion-Diamond-1169557.asp

With the pricescope discount, all three are below $2K. Good luck with your search!

These are all below his mark, but just keep in mind that cushions can''t be judged by numbers...which means you have to have someone who knows what to look for! I 2nd ERD or GOG!

I have a .85 I SI1 (eyelclean) cushette (cushion shape, sparkles like a round and cushion)
and I can''t tell you it was a little over 2grand. So you can get what your looking for if your girl isn''t color sensitive and you find something eye clean!

GOod luck!

oops! I meant to say meet his mark!

Wow, thank you all so much!! as soon as Mark''s website is back up and running I will definitely have a look around and give him a call.

I''m a bit more hopeful now. At first, I decided to get a lab-created diamond, but they didn''t have any cushion cuts in my price range. I was thinking about settling on a .55 ct F VS1 "good" Round (certified by EGL!) for $1700 with the thought of upgrading a few months later to a cushion.

Now I know the diamond that my gf wants can be had with my budget, I don''t have to wait months for it while disappointing with something she doesn''t want, and it''ll be a mined diamond (which doesn''t make a difference to either of us).

Thank you!!!

Edwin

His website isn''t really anything great, so just give him a call.

Agreed, Mark works best by talking to someone in person or over the phone. I''d call.

Can anyone confirm that this is Mark''s number? 1-877-342-7464

That''s what I have in my files, but then again it''s been a year or so since I dealt with Mark.

Remember me? :)

I talked to Mark and he sounds like a great guy. I''m going with him for my center stone. My next question is:

Anyone have recommendations on which metal to go with? Suggestions, comments, links, etc. are gratefully appreciated. Thanks again everyone!

Edwin

It''s really a personal preference. I am a platinum girl and with platinum prices the way they are, that is the way I would go at this moment. Is it a custom setting or a stock piece? And does it have pave or not?

It''ll be custom made to look like a Tiffany Novo ring. What is pave?

Also, I feel I don''t know much about each metal to make an educated choice.

Then you have pave. Pave are the little stones set into the band and platinum is usually recommended for pave rings because it''s a bit more malleable and thus holds the little stones better.

Thank you so much for your recommendation, Neatfreak. What are your thoughts on palladium?

I have a palladium ring and I like it but not as much as my platinum (the palladium color is just duller which I don''t love). I don''t know how it is with pave though...
