Hello all!

My brother in law is planning to finally propose to his girlfriend! He is looking to surprise her with a Princess cut diamond ring. He is looking to spend around $4500-$6000 on a 1 ct stone and the setting. Any tips on what to look for as far table and depth? Is there a preferred length to width ratio? I figured I would ask since so many of you were helpful in helping me with two diamonds in the past (I just got a 1.75 round and had it set into a halo. I smile every time I look at it :appl: )

Thank you in advance for your help!

For that budget your brother should be able to buy a high spec 1ct diamond in a simple solitaire setting or a lower spec diamond in a halo setting.

I would say aim $4500 ish for the diamond and $1500 ish for the setting.

These are just a few ideas:

You could buy this

and set it in this

or

this diamond

and set it in this

Thank you for your post! I sent my brother in law the links of the princess cut stones. While he was looking at the different stones, he happened upon a radiant cut and decided that is what he wants. He knows that his fiancee is partial to the square look so he looking for one that is more square than rectangular. I asked him a few days later if he is still sure that he wants a radiant and he said he is sure. We talked some this evening and he is certainly willing to make compromises to be able to afford a nice 1 carat stone. He only requests one that is it well cut and eye clean. He's seen two of my round stones, one is an H color with medium fluorescence and the other is an I with no fluorescence and he thinks they are white enough. Are there any suggestions that you can share to get him started in the right direction? I really appreciate your time!

I probably should have asked this at the beginning of the post...kind of a dumb question. With all things being equal, are radiants more or less "sparkly" than princess cut stones? He swears that the radiants seem more fiery to him.

Thanks!!

chel180 - he really likes the Ritani setting.
