Hello All,

I've been lurking for a while and need some personal help finding a stone.

To keep it simple, I am looking for the largest eye clean princess I can find in my price range, 2000-2500.

The only thing I care about is getting a great cut since that is going to be the biggest thing that you can notice when looking at it with the naked eye.

Want a SI1 or SI2. Don't care as long as its eye clean, don't need any more than that, want to save money here.

Color, H or I is fine. I looked at them in person and really couldn't tell a difference between color, even larger differences. Especially since it is going to go into a gold band. Again want to save some of my money here.

It seems that most of the vendors mentioned on here, WhiteFlash, GoodOldGold, etc. don't really have a lot of stock of this criteria, probably because I'm not the only person looking for a good value stone. Places like JamesAllen seem to just have too many, and don't seem to be as accommodating as the vendors mentioned in finding a diamond in the rough (literally). i Do I need to get lucky and grab one I want when it comes up, or is there somewhere else i need to go where they can help me find it?

Thanks a lot in advance to anyone who helps me!!

Wow, I really appreciate your help in picking out a few potentials.

I notice that one has a much nicer color than I am looking for, and the other 2 much nicer clarity. Am I nitpicking a little more than I need to be? Could I really get more carats by looking for my exact specs?

Sorry, I am still quite a beginner with this, even though I have done a decent amount of research.

You could if you can wait. These are the only available stones on the diamond search function that meet your budget and criteria.

Got it. Thank You!!!

One more question.... Would sacrificing one grade of cut make a big difference? I have read around here that princesses are all pretty subjective, even if everything looks good on the cut and numbers it can still have a pretty unimpressive ASET image. Could a lesser cut potentially have a better ASET than the numbers indicate and be close enough to what I am looking for from the naked eye?

The only lab that grades cut performance is AGS, anything else is by the vendor and that can mean anything unless the vendor can provide ASET image to back up their claim. You could try and find GIA graded stones from vendors that can provide ASET image but that will mean shifting through a lot more stones.

Depends on what you mean by a "lesser" cut. A stone with a good ASET has a better cut than a stone with a poor ASET, regardless of the numbers. You may be referring to a lesser cut grade as given by the vendor. For that matter, you can pretty much throw vendor cut grades out the window with fancy shapes. So yes, a stone that is graded as "good" by a vendor such as BN or JA that grades solely on proportions may be better than a stone that is graded as "excellent" by them. The only cut grade you should trust for a princess is the one given by AGS, the only lab that grades princesses for cut performance. Also, vendors like WF and GOG that grade based on ASET are trustworthy, but not vendor cut grades based only on proportions.

Basically was just wondering what the chances are that a grade below ideal would have a great ASET. Which if I understand, a good ASET is pretty much a be all end all for a quality cut, or at least give you the end result that you are looking for from an ideal cut.

What is my best way to find the largest, slightly flawed but eye clean stone that I am looking for? I like WhiteFlash because of all the info that they provide. Do I simply go by their AGS rated stones to make it easy and to be certain, or call and see if they can help me sort through the GIA's for what I am looking for?

If you mean by AGS Ideal, then unlikely as AGS developed ASET for their performance grading, so they are using ASET through a range of viewing angles for their princess grading rather than a single face up ASET image.

You could try calling WF or any other vendors and ask them if they have any in the pipeline that suits your requirements. If you are calling a stone in, you will need to pay a fee or commit to buying from the vendor, depending on what their policy are.
