need help finding a diamond

I got engaged in June and recently chipped my diamond. I put in a claim with the insurance company and they are giving me the replacement value minus the deductable, so I am getting $8,200 to purchase a new stone. My setting was not damaged (thank god! I can part with the diamond but not the setting, it is much more sentimental to me)

I am a diamond purchasing virgin. My original stone was given to us by my FMIL. My last stone was I1 clarity, I color, and not a good cut at all. I would like to find a stone that is much better quality and cut. I looked at a stone at my jeweler, it was SI1 and H color and an excellent cut. I thought it was beautiful. I am willing to go down in color if it faces up white and down to SI2 if it is eye clean for the most part. I think the most important thing to me is going to be the cut, because my last stone really didn''t sparkle much.

I am sort of stuck at $8200 for the stone my FI and I can''t go above that. Also I am stuck at a smallest size because my jeweler said in order to keep my setting I have now I have can''t go below 7.7 mm diameter, which I am guessing is around 1.8 ct. Any suggestions in what to look for would be great. I did find this stone below, am I on the right track?

A first suggestion I'd point you to would be this one.

It presumes...a) not EGL, b) purchased over the internet, c) SI 1 and better, d) h or better, and e) smaller...but over 7 cm (as it happens).

Alternately....take off the size limit...and don't worry about getting to H...and you can have this one if you just chip in $50 to your budget...tell the jeweler to fit it in. Denver appraiser (above under resources) says this can typically be done. And...this one is a whopper.

By the way...with this option (b), like the one you found..they are both over you jeweler's stated size limit. Consider the color and clarity differences a swap. But...the GIA certificate vs EGL is a significant difference.

Otherwise..back to option (a)...cause you won't do much better for size than the first one, even if you go lower in color as in #2, and with (a) you have both a nice G and AGS 0.

I am sorry I am slightly confused about the highlighted area. Correct me if I am wrong. Are you saying to stay away from diamonds with EGL certs?

My issue with the first diamond is that it is much much smaller than the one I had previously, so I don''t want to sacrifice size, but also the jeweler said that with my setting a diamond can not go below 7.7 mm but I can up he said, 7.7 is just the smallest. I might have been a little confusing before, I am sorry.

I think the second option seems like a great option. I am not really color sensative so i think J would be ok, but I would need to see a couple in person first to say that. I think I could swing $50 to get a much better diamond than what I had before. Thanks for the find!

FLgirls...sorry to have failed to read closely..I see what you''ve written.

Do a search here on both EGL and James Allen. Probably, you''ll be disappointed and pleased, respectively. If EGL, USA is a better option than others. I''ve come to think...if not EGL USA (there''s many other EGLs, too), to tend to avoid them, yes.

and keep it there.
