second ones out need more info on the 1st and 3rd.
full sarin or preferably ideal-scope or ASET images would be best.

Also need to know if the first one is eyeclean.

You need the crown and pavilion angles on #1 and #3. Then you can insert the numbers into the Holloway Cut Advisor under Tools above. A total of 0 to 2 is most desirable, and between 1 and 2 is most often favored here.

Thanks for the replies. Stone 1 is eye clean. The crown and pavilion angles are:

Stone 1:
Crown: 35.5
Pavilion: 41.0

Stone 3:
Crown: 34.5
Pavilion: 41.0

As suggested by Diamondseeker, I ran both through the HCA tool above. Stone 1 came out a 3.7 and Stone 3 came out a 1.8. Based upon that, it seems #3 is a "better" stone; however do the polish and symmetry ratings also impact this? Stone 1 has excellent ratings for polish and symmetry and stone 3 is rated very good for both.

Thanks again for the help.

Gbone,

check out the "Polish & Symmetry" section of the Advanced tutorial on Diamonds on this site:

http://diamonds.pricescope.com/polish.asp
http://diamonds.pricescope.com/symm.asp

A few things I gleaned from these articles & others'' posts are....

You''ll still want to go w/ stone #3 (the HCA 1.8), even with the VG symmetry & polish b/c (quotes from the Tutorial):
-"You may never notice any difference between diamonds with Ideal, Excellent Very Good or even some Good symmetry diamonds"
-"If you choose a diamond with an SI or VS inclusions, a few microscopic polish lines may be of no relevance. But if you were considering buying a Flawless diamond, then Ideal or Excellent Polish could be a consideration" (Diamond #3 is VS2)
-"The visual effect of Good or lower Polish is that you might feel a need to clean the stone. During the GIA observation testing, it was found that observers were less inclined to prefer diamonds with Good and lesser Polish. If the polish is rated as Fair or Poor, visual performance may be noticeably reduced." (BUT, stone #3 is VeryGood -- so this shouldn''t be as true?)

I found a few other diamonds that were similar to your specs -- not sure what your budget is, or the price of the stones you found... but these have excellent/excellent for symmetry & polish (if you decide that''s what you want)...

ex/ex vs. vg/vg will affect price, but both are fine.
