Hello,

I have put a few diamonds on hold on jamesallen.com. They are both .90 rounds, and appear to be eye clean.

My concern with the lower priced first one is that the GIA report says it has clouds. It looks like it may have a dull, filmy finish. Would this effect the light performance and sparkle of the diamond? Otherwise it looks like a great price. I'm not sure if the second one is worth $1000.00 more.

Thanks for your help!

Can't tell anything about the brilliance (or whether they're eyeclean to your specifications) from the picture.. JA has a couple of different lighting setups that can make stones look quite different and there are smaller variations within those setups when photographing each individual stone.. It's not uncommon for stones under 1ct to come with the dossier report w/o clarity plot, it doesn't say "clarity based on clouds not shown" but it's an SI2 and the cloud is the grade-making inclusion... IMO this goes in the Must Inspect In-Person Before Setting bucket.

What type of setting are you thinking of? If it's going in a high 4prong Tiffany type I'd recommend the other, of those two - would be concerned about vthin girdle + lower crown. In a more protective setting this might not be a concern.

What does your rep say? What are the prices? And confirm eyeclean to your requirements, whatever they are.

Thanks Yssie,

I appreciate your input. I'm still looking, but I realize I need to see it in person. The cloud, and "very thin" girdle scared me off from that one. It just seemed like a hassle to order it and then possibly have to send it back and get a refund if I didn't like it after all.
