Hi all,
I am new to pricescope but have been lurking for a while during my search for a great diamond/engagement ring.

I have decided to go with Yoni from Eternity Diamonds (ps he is wonderful) who is sourcing a stone for my boyfriend and I (I am super particular so we decided to work on the ring together). The dilemma I am faced with is that now I am stuck between two different stones.

the first one is:

Carat weight: 0.87
Cut: Excellent
Color: J
Clarity: VVS2
Depth %: 62.5
Table %: 56
Symmetry: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Girdle: Medium
Culet: None
Fluorescence: Medium
Measurements: 6.10-6.10x3.80

and the second one specs are:

Carat weight: 0.90
Cut: Excellent
Color: J
Clarity: SI1
Depth %: 60.3
Table %: 58
Symmetry: V. Good
Polish: Excellent
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.26-6.28x3.80

Yoni has assured me that the second one is totally eye clean despite the knot that is shown on the GIA certificate. He also sent some pictures and it does look very beautiful, but will a knot jeopardize the integrity of the stone?

The price difference between the two is about $250 (second being more expensive)

I'd like your opinions on which one I should choose.

Thanks in advance!

What are the full specs on the two stones from the GIA cert? Have you run the diamonds through the HCA and received pictures, idealscope, aset images from Yoni yet?

If the idealscope/HCA of the two are comparable, I would go for #1. Although VVS2 seems like a bit overkill, if the proportions are right, a VVS2 with florescence in a J stone would look great.

I have also worked with Yoni and really appreciate his help. He has a very good eye for things, and after seeing his pictures and seeing a stone he was evaluating for me in person, I trust his eye.

One more thing, I want the best possible finger coverage (my finger is size 7.25-7.5ish) but am I really going to notice much of a difference between a 6.1 mm stone and 6.28 mm?

I am putting it in a halo setting like this:

and of the 0.87

The email from Yoni also said about the stones:

The knot is hard to see even with the loupe. Totally eye clean. The
.87 may have a better cut/brilliance. Tough to tell. Both are really
nice stones."

Okay, first of all, the .87 is too deep and you don't want a diameter smaller than it could be. I would eliminate that one. Plus, there is no point in paying for VVS when VS is just fine. I'd rather have a larger diamond.

As far as the .90 goes, it has a very nice spread (diameter) but I am not sure about the symmetry being very good. I am sure it wouldn't be classified as a hearts and arrows diamond because the hearts just aren't perfect enough. However, that may not matter as far as the performance of the stone goes. The primary inclusion on that one is a feather that appears that it could reach the girdle. That would concern me much more than the knot.

Honestly, I'd look for a J VS1 or VS2 over either of these. There are thousands of diamonds out there. Don't limit yourself to these two.

Thanks for your advice diamondseeker. The reason I called it Hearts and Arrows is because that is what it was classified as on Eternity Diamonds Website. He told me that it was Hearts and Arrows as well. I do see what you mean about the symmetry of it though. Is it a good value at least?
