btw; going just by the specs i like the 1.09 ct.

is this a H&A stone ? don''t you want one with 8 perfect hearts too?

I dont have pics, but i took it to my jeweler and looked at it through their "hearts on fire" scope.

Im a total novice, but from what I saw on the scope, it''s definately an H&A. I Saw 8 hearts on the backside of the diamond and the arrows from the top.

I want to get myself and Idealscope and ASET so I can take more pics.

We went and ordered the ring. It should show up in 3-4 weeks.

Ok, will wait for you pictures. :)

Is the diamond beautiful?

Congratulations! You are one patient man to wait 7 years to marry a girl on account of her parents!

The jewelers were kind enough to let me use their Hearts on Fire loupe to look photograph the diamond. I had a very unsteady hand, and focusing it was tough.

Hearts

arrows.

Thanks again for all of your advice.

We didn''t have a way of mounting the camera, so the shakiness blurred the gap between the hearts and arrows

Looks good. :)

I can't quite see the hearts clearly enough to give you a good opinion on those, but the diamond does look nice!

There is alot of parallax since the camera is at least 8 inches above the reticle on the scope. The hearts have a more distinct line when viewed (the camera was shaking in most of these pics... ADRENALINE!!!)

I''m going to be paying garry''s website a visit and ordering up an Idealscope and some goodies!!!

I never in a million years thought i''d be so into diamond hunting. I warned the boss that this would be the ONE and only diamond I would put this much thought into, but I bet the one I get her for our 50th will be even more special.

Being an Engineer, i love the beauty of math and numbers. You guys have done a great job turning this into a great, fun experience.

I''m probably going to be paying one of the fine Appraisers mentioned on pricescope a visit for some detailed tests.

Thanks a bunch and will keep you posted.

Thank you! And it sounds like you have rapidly absorbed lots of info and have everything in hand!

Theres a forum for everything, and that''s where the true knowledge is located. For every "long time lurker, first time poster", there are 20 people who have learned from your advice/input and will most likely NEVER contact you to thank you.

THANK YOU GUYS!!!

The boss is definately in love.

Thats a lovely thing to say and means a great deal, thank you so much Chris - we appreciate it!

Ok,

total n00b question.

In most "online pics" like good old gold, steven allen, whiteflash etc have very dark "arrows". Is this just a reflection from the observer or background?

Sometimes it looks like its a mirror of whatever is in front of it (one time i saw flesh color, which was a telltale sign that it may be the observer.

I''d like to take some photos of the stone unset before it makes its home in the Tacori ring forever!!!

This is just obstruction from the observer, nothing to worry about.

Hi Chris,

Can you upload the images directly please? Linking to these is against forum policy - thanks!

Sorry about that. I wont let it happen again.

I''m falling in love with this rock more and more every day. I made my own makeshift scope using a red colored medicine bottle and an old magnifying glass. From Top dead center, the Hearts and arrows are perfect. The line is fairly thin, so i dont know if its an "actual H&A" as per the japanese standard, but the hearts are all in great shape, everything is symmetric.

I think the only thing that could have been better is a smaller pavillion angle (39.7 vs 40.8) and the strip between the hearts and the 8 arrowheads would be a bit more pronounced. Nonetheless, for a rock ordered online and without any of the pictures, I think this one can be chalked up as a "SCORE!!!"

Going to take it to appraiser down in LA tomorrow. Will have full reports and pics.

Chris its BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Just got back from my Gemsecure (From Pricescope list of appraisers) and I am VERY VERY happy with this diamond.

1. Everything was in spec to the Certificate.

2. He actually thought it was an E (its an F).

3. Definately a "Hearts and Arrows", so much so that he noted that this was the nicest one in its size range hes seen for quite some time. (He sees 150-250 diamonds a week).

4. ASET was pretty much perfect.

5. Stated that he was surprised that it didn''t get picked up by Hearts on Fire or A Cut Above as one of their branded diamonds.

6. I paid a good price at Bluenile (according to his quick calculations and "the guide" BN only made 5-700 on the transaction)

7. He appraised it as an RBC (round brilliant cut) and it was $4000 more than I paid, but to me, there isn''t a price to be paid for it ITS OURS NOW!!!

8. His Sarin machine was out for recalibration (he does lots of commercial grading). I will be bringing it back in a few weeks for a full SARIN report.

Patrick was exceptionally helpful in validating/reassuring my purchase.

Hearing all those good things about my diamond has made me one happy camper. Thanks to all. I will be posting pics once i get some from Patrick or from my own Idealscope/ASET images.

Thanks for your help!!!

Chris

Thats great Chris - MANY congratulations!!!

Thank you for the update!
Some really great news, I''m happy for you both!

Is this appraisal for insurance? If so, did you tell the appraiser? If he put down that 18k as the value, you will be paying more for insurance than if it is just based on the sale price as the replacement value is higher, but the insurance company will still only get you a similar diamond. Just something I thought you want to know.

Thanks!!

Unfortunately she had to work, but we plan on going back together once the stone is mounted in the setting. We arent material people, but when we do spend, we like things with higher quality/value.

Shes not as into it as I am as far as how nerdy I am about it being an H&A without the H&A price. To me, its a manufacturing marvel that all facets can be lined up perfectly and when it is, presents such eye candy. As an engineer, my eyes are my most valuable asset. I can tell if things are out of square, off center, and generally have a sharp eye for symmetry.

The fact that these perfections/qualities will be missed by all but the most seasoned diamond lovers (most care about the carat weight) fits our "low profile" lifestyle.

Hey, low profile poker player

, don't think that all these qualities will be missed by others.
I had people stop me in the street, restaurant, bus, ... to say how my diamond is gorgeous.
(It happened with both ACA and EightStar.)

Yes. He mentioned that the appraisal used such a high value because of the nature of the Bluenile website/profit structure. USAA is my insurance company and they would supposedly replace it with a diamond of the same 4c''s regardless of price.

Although the appraisal will ultimately (when USAA asks for it) be for insurance purposes, I mainly took it there to confirm the quality of the diamond and verify its certificates characteristics. I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to get the SARIN done tho, so I was slightly bummed when i found out it was out of commission. The up side is that it will only be 50 bucks to get that test performed the next time i go in.

I will have to buy an ASET and idealscope to take pics. I was too shy to ask him to do it.

Chris
