Hi,

Brand new to the forum. Just looking for a little advice between two stones:

Stone #1:

Round Brilliant
7.42- 7.52 x 4.48 mm
1.53 carat
G color
SI2
Cut: Very Good
Faint Fluorescence
Polish & Symmetry: Very Good
Table: 60%
Depth: 59.8%
Price: $10,100

Stone #2:

7.00-7.04 x 4.39 mm
1.33 carat
F color
SI2++
Cut: Excellent
No fluorescence
Polish & Symmetry: Excellent
Table: 57%
Depth: 62.5%
Price: $7,950

To me, the big disparities are between carat and price. Is an extra 0.2 carat worth $2,000? I''ve seen both side by side and both have great fire and scintillation. The size difference is small, but certainly there. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi Lloyd,

Can you post the crown and pavilion angles please for each and the girdle thicknesses ? If you don''t have that info, if you could post the GIA report numbers then we can look them up from there. Also what are the grade setting inclusions for the SI2 clarities, such as clouds, feathers etc? This is important to know if there are clouds plotted, '' clouds not shown'' in the comments section of the report is rarely an issue, plotted clouds on the diamond diagram might be as sometimes in this grade they can impact brilliance.

For Stone #1 (1.33 carat)
Crown angle: 36.0
Pavilion angle: 40.8
Culet: None
Small cloud & feather inclusions near girdle, but the stone is eye clean

Stone #2 (1.53 carat)
Crown angle: 32.0
Pavilion angle: 41.0
Culet: Very small
All inclusions are towards the girdle (feather & twinning wisp). Stone is eye clean as well.

Tried uploading the GIA reports, but didn''t work. The bar code numbers for them are 210600196690 and 536903602.

There is sharp jump in $/carat at the 1.5 range.

Anyway, I from the numbers, I prefer the F SI2.

EDT:
The GIA numbers are not working for me. Can you check on the numbers again?

Sorry again for the GIA number mistake (was looking in the wrong place):

GIA report 17202800 (carat 1.53)
GIA report 2106281012 (carat 1.33)

The 1.53c G SI2 number is a good cut, but has thick girdle, so a little smaller. It is also cut for light return, so fire will be sacrifice a little.

The 1.33c F SI2 is a little iffy, probable leakage. An IS image will tell more.

Is there any other potential candidate?

I prefer the first, this diamond will probably show more white light than fire due to the crown and pavilion angle ranges, the second could show light leakage and not sparkle well because of it. Do check with the first that the cloud is not dulling the brilliance of the stone, if not then thats fine.
