Hi all. Long time lurker that has been doing research here. Decided I need some help. It''s time to buy the e-ring, and I''m stuck on my diamond selection. I''ve been looking at GoG, WF, JA, and BN. So many to choose from. I''ve been using the HCA to analyze most of the diamonds using the numbers in the certifications. I''m still stuck. Here''s what I can tell you that I''m looking for:

Total price for a round diamond with a thin band, platinum, four-prong setting needs to be no more than $5k.

I''ve done lots of "in person" diamond shopping at local B&Ms and am satisfied with going as low as J color and SI1 clarity. I want to focus on cut first, but size is important also. I''d like to get at least 1ct. for my money. Obviously, bigger wouldn''t hurt. This seems quite reasonable with my color and clarity limits. I''m a total newbie at picking out diamonds and have sooooo many in my "wishlist" at all the retailers listed above, that I would waste your time listing them all here. I know it''s a big favor to ask of my first post, but could some of you more "seasoned" folks point me in the right direction of a round stone that fits my requirements and budget?

I''m ready to buy, I just need a little help in selecting the right thing. I can say this, online retailers are MUCH better in price than any local B&M.

Thanks.

You all are providing me with beautiful stones. I'm just a little concerned though. I don't want to sound like I don't appreciate what you are doing for me, but the stones alone are blowing my budget. I don't have anything left for the setting. The $5k limit was for both pieces, and that was my highest limit. Since it looks like I'll be out about $800 for a platinum solitaire setting, that really only leaves me with about $4200 for the stone. I really can't go much higher - at least not for the rest of the year. I really want to propose soon (like in the next month). I've got a big surprise already planned that coincides with something that is happening in November and don't know if this opportunity will ever come again. Am I being unrealistic in my search? The stones that you all have shown me so far are PERFECT. They are exactly what I want her to have. Should I just wait and come up with a different proposal?

EDIT: I just found a few that work with my budget:

Possible Stone #1 - NOT ACA, but 1ct.

Possible Stone #2 - ACA .94ct.

It may be a silly question, but which of these two would be the best bet for the money? Thanks!

with the budget you have set for both the ring and setting, it is going to be very difficult finding a ring over a carat that impresses. I suggest that you stay under 1 carat because the price jumps dramatically over the 1 carat mark and you won''t be able to tell much difference between say 0.85 to 1 carat. I was able to get my hands on an ideal cut G Si1 0.81 carat stone for $ 3200 and it will look much better than a 1 carat fair cut diamond.

You might want to try a halo setting to making the stone look larger but i think under 1 carat is your best bet. Try googling a size chart for the diamonds.

Consider shopping at JA, don''t go for under a carat if you don''t want to, and keep looking for AGS0 (but the one you pulled from WF''s IS looks not so good).

This one, for example, is a possibility. Both WF and JA offer thin platinum rings for $600. You can get there...

Ask for an IS. No True Hearts are in your price range, but you don''t need one.

The BIC will have a bigger diameter compare to TIC, FIC, but will sacrifice fire for it. Request IS for the JA stone if you are interested in them.
