Need some help! With a difference of only $100, I'm having a hard time picking between 2 stones.

The EGL is comparable to an I or J in GIA standards and I'm worried it will look yellow next to the halo setting I've chosen. Will a .25 difference be noticeable? Should I go with the smaller stone that shows less color?

Well, first of all, yes, a difference of .25 will be noticeable. That said, remember that not only will the color of the EGL stone be graded loosely, but also the clarity could be lower as well. Have you seen the stone in person? Also, did you already purchase the halo setting? What size stone is it designed for? I'd really only consider GIA stones. Then you're comparing apples to apples.

Also, you don't mention cut at all? That's really the most important thing!

Ah you're right I forgot to mention they are square cushions. The halo is a designer setting so they are designed for any shape. I've seen them in person once but didn't notice a hige difference in size, only color. I'm more worried about the diamond in the setting more than anything.

The diameter measurements are more important than the weight when it comes to cushions, because a 1.25 could look as big as a 1.5 if the 1.5 is too deep. We'd have to see pictures to give an opinion on these particular stones. There are great cushions and there are terrible cushions, and we have to have more information to give input. But I would only look at GIA or AGS graded diamonds.
