Need help choosing a setting!! vatche swan, mwm torchiere, or other??

I''ve got a 2ct RB and have been agonizing over setting but finally have it down to three:



1) vatche swan w/ pave

2) mark morrell''s fancy torchiere

3) custom 4 prong design with a split shank that loops back. Pics to follow.

My gf''s fingers are around a size 4.5 so I don''t want something too overwhelming. She is artistic and the only thing I know is that she doesn''t want something "too plain" and that she wants something that''s "different." Could you please tell me which one you like the best and also, so that I have a reference, what your favorite ring is in general?? Any thoughts at all would be much appreciated!!

p.s. I haven''t ruled out getting a place holder 14k white gold setting and then letting her choose her own setting later, but I think she would really appreciate the surprise.
 
both are beautiful, the vatche swan, looks like it would be harder to have a band sit closer to the head. have you thought about wedding bands?

I''m still going to vote for either the swan or torchiere, as your fiance can get very creative with wedding bands, plus I''m a sucker for six prongs.
 
D&T, i think i would just get a kinked band in a similar style to the shank of whatever e-ring I picked. If the kink really became a problem to wear by itself, I guess I could always just add a simple no frills band that could be used as a stand alone. My impression was that both the torchiere and swan have kinked bands readily available (not sure on the swan actually). And obviously for the custom one, would try to design it so a band could be somewhat flush.
 

Personal fav is the torchiere.


1. The surprise diamonds on the Swan sit so low that they would be covered by a wedding band, which seems a shame.


2. Torchiere is classic, but with a twist, and very fluid. I love it.


3. Is the most unique of the 3, but not as versatile with band selection, IMO.

I wouldn''t worry too much about a curved band - most gaps really aren''t that bad, and your gal should be in on the decision anyway.

I like the torchiere''s lines the best. There''s something really alluring about the way the basket weaves around the surprise stones, IMO, and I especially like it with the blingy band. The Swan is lovely too but the detail just doesn''t speak to me as much. The custom options are pretty too, but not as unique.

I wouldn''t worry too much about the flush-band thing. Small gaps are not awful looking usually.
 
I love gaps personally, so that wouldn''t be a priority for me. I''d pick the torchiere or the custom (which is lovely!).
 
Of the three, I prefer the torchiere. My ring finger is also a 4.5. While I do like the 4-prong, IMO I think the split shank would overwhelm her dainty finger.
 
The fancy torchiere would be my favorite. In general I like the fancy torchiere

My second choice would be the custom.
 
I dream of one day getting a Mark Morrell. So much so that I briefly thought of getting a placeholder stone put in one for my e-ring. My better senses came to me and I found a setting that I''ll be happy with for years to come. However, if I get a chance to upgrade to a Mark Morrell, I''ll jump on it.
 
I vote for the torchiere. My dream setting!

thanks for all your input, it is very helpful! seems like the torchiere is pulling into the lead. i''ve seen the custom one in person and what i like about the split shank is that it curves back around and that it doesn''t split too wide.

my only concern with the torchiere is that the prongs wind up covering up too much of the side of the diamond. six prongs already is a lot of metal, but when it''s as wide as they are in the torchiere, i''m a little concerned all you see is basically metal. does anyone have either a torchiere or flame? is the metal coverage an issue?
 
^^ You won't need to worry about the prongs covering too much of the diamond, especially with a 2 ct. RB.
 
You have to go with your gut and never second guess yourself. But . . . that said . . . . personally, I love the torchiere. I had never seen it. It''s gorgeous!
 
I love the first and second one. They are both gorgeous!
 
thanks for all your input. i was all ready to move forward with a torchiere and then some friends are pushing for the custom! their only complaint on the torchiere is the 6 prongs and the metal coverage. ugh, decisions, decisions.

does anyone think the gaps in the design (on the split shank and in and around the basket) on #3 make it more susceptible to dirt, lotion, lint, etc? and if i were to buy a home ultrasonic cleaner wouldn''t that sort of take care of it?

With a 2ct RB, I really truly don''t think prong coverage is going to be an issue, IMO.

The gaps and ths split on the custom one will collect dirt etc. The pave in the band would make putting it in an ultrasonic on a regular basis inadvisable.
 
I vote for the Torchiere-it''s gorgeous and I love the 6 prongs.

Not to throw a wrench into things but...

When you say she''s "artistic" what do you mean? Is she into avant-garde art or is she one of those Impressionist or Pre-Raphaelite gals?

The Torchiere is lovely, but it''s fairly classic and not modern at all. Fine for someone who wants something classic with a bit of bling, but not for someone who only decorates with Bauhaus--if you see what I mean.
 
hest88, without going into too much detail, since this is a surprise and it''s a public forum, she likes the performing arts and stuff like photography, etc. not so much in a professional sense, but more from a personal past time perspective. i think a classic tiffany 6 prong or something, while very elegant, would be a little too traditional for her. at the same time, i don''t want to do something really funky like a mark schneider design either- while she may like that today, maybe she would get tired of it in a few years. so i guess the challenge would be to get something classic enough to endure, but not so classic that everyone out there has it already. not sure if i''m just talking myself into circles here...

My favorite is the MM. I love it! I know this is personal preference, but the others seem a little busy to me.
 
The MM with a matching wedding band! I have a 4.5 size ring finger and think that the MM would be just beautiful. The design elements work so well together.
