I''ve lurked on and off for years!! The rings I see here are beautiful so I''m hoping I can get some advice.
I want a new setting and my husband was nice enough to give it to me for my 40th bday in April. My problem is, I don''t know what to pick and keep getting more confused.
Right now, I think my setting is pretty but the prongs just look stuck inside of a mounting that doesn''t seem to go well together. The stone is so high, the point of the pear almost like a weapon.
I''ve hurt my little boy with it several times. Recently I was closing the trunk of my car and the trunk caught on the stone as it was slamming down and pulled my whole hand with it. I got my fingers out of the way just in time. The band is also way too wide for my short fingers. Also, it''s 18k yellow gold that I get dipped in rhodium. I have it done every 6 months at a cost of about $80 each time. So, I''ll be getting a new setting in white gold or platinum and really want a low profile setting that won''t get caught on everything.
I''ve spent countless hours looking online and local jewelry stores and still don''t know what to do. Finding pears already set in mountings is impossible. I''m going crazy trying to decide, halo or no halo? should I do a classic pear center with baguettes on each side? How can I use some of the stones in my existing setting? Or should I start from scratch? My wedding band is just as wide and has the same baguettes half way around.
I definitely want a thinner band that doesn''t overpower the stone. I was thinking about prong setting the small rounds on the new shank and getting a plain wedding band. I''m just not sure how to mount the stone. I''ll also post some pics of my ideas. Please help!
Here is the ring right now. The center stone is 1.6cts.
