Hey Guys,

So i bought a diamond last week from blue nile, but the diamond isn't right for me. So i went back to the drawing board. And here are the two diamonds that i am debating between. Thanks in advance!

The first diamond is from IDJ, and they're local to me. I've already seen this diamond, and there is an inclusion on the side that can be hidden by a prong.

The second diamond is from Blue Nile. I have not seen it in person, and was wondering if i should order it and compare it with the first one. Or if i should just return this one, and call it a day by going with the first diamond listed.

If eye clean I like the first one better, it i bigger, whiter, and less deep.

Why don't you have IDJ call in the Blue Nile stone and you can have them compare the two and send you pictures?

With very good cut grade, you are definitly going to want to see Idealscope & ASET pictures of each of the stones to properly asses the light performance. Th is something IDJ can do for you.

they can do that? I didn't realize that they can get the Blue Nile stone. I always thought that there was almost no way of seeing a stone when going through blue nile.

I bought a BN stone through them. They will provide all the images and beat the price :). Since I live in the NYC area I was even able to go into their store and see the stone in person before the purchase.

They work pretty quickly too. It help to ask for Yekutiel and identify yourself a a Pricescoper.

sounds awesome!!!! wow!! Thanks for the advice!!! i'll tell them to get that stone and go in person to see them before buying. A lady named luann is already helping me. But i've mentioned pricescope before. They've been nice to me, except when its around closing time. LOL

Btw, i asked if the setting was refundable or be able to be credited, but i was told taht the setting was not refundable. is this correct from IDJ?

Ya. I bought a VG cut as well that had a great HCA score and excellent level light performance. It could be a good opportunity to squeak out a little more for your money. Ditto on the eye clean SI2 :)

Per setting. My understanding is that the non-refundable setting is the normal. I know IDJ does that as well as a few other places I went. Not sure if there are places that refund the setting.

Here are some of the images they provided me:

what did you ask for to get these pics? the light test? I don't want to sound like a noob when i'm trying to ask for something but i do'nt know what it is. LOL. Btw, does it matter if i put the diamond on hold at bluenile? Should i tell them to NOT hold it anymore so IDJ can pull it? That looks like an awesome diamond btw. What clarity grade is that? please do'nt tell me its an si2. Cause otherwise, i'd be trying to look for something as clean as that!

The diamond was SI2. There is a feather in between 1-2 o'clock in the pictures which the prong covers.

The top picture is called an "Idealscope"
The second picture is called an "ASET"

You may also want to ask for pictures through the hearts and arrows viewer.

Per the hold. Same thing happened to me. Just tell IDJ you want it, and right after the hold expires at BlueNile they can get it.

Man, i'm kind of jealous that you're able to find a diamond that nice as an si2. Hopefully mine are going to look similar. I don't know how much more time i can spend trying to find the perfect diamond for the cheapest price.

Let IDJ help you. Ask for an Eye Clean SI2. I believe they will be able to find you one. How much time do you have before you want to propose?

I've got time. A few months? I wanted to have a ring ready to go by mid june so i can start thinking how to propose. I know IDJ won't have a problem finding me stone, its just that this stone was priced at $6780 on their website versus $6085 on another. I'm just afraid that i will pay too much for a stone i can get cheaper if i found it myself. I know IDJ has a good pricematch policy, but i'm not sure how "nice" they would be if they had to do the leg work for me AND price match to a competitor's website. I mean, i could be wrong and they'd be more than happy to help AND still pricematch. Me buying a car was sooo much easier.

I understand that position, if they do the leg work of getting you the stone I imagine it will stink a little if you then pricematch.

I found the stone myself and then had them call it in.

The G/SI2 looks good now. If the inclusion can be hidden by the prone that is great. If it has good light performance pictures that may be the winner.

thanks for your input! i really appreciate it. I emailed luann to see if she can get the diamond from blue nile so i can compare. If she says no, i might go ahead and go with the 1.15 G SI2.

i might go ahead and go with the 1.15 G SI2.

Before you do that ask for the ASET & Idealscope pictures and post them here. It will give you assurance about cut quality.

Will do. I already asked her in an email for the idealscope, ASET, and Picture through the hearts and arrows viewfinder.. I'm going to wait till tomorrow to see when she can get those for me. I'll post them when she sends it and hopefully i'll get the "thumbs up" from you.

Lots of people are better at evaluating those things than me, so hopefully they will chime in.

Your on the right track though. GIA certs and working with IDJ. You'll get something great.

Got the aset and idealscope pictures back. I think it looks promising. What do you guys think? You can see that there is an inclusion on at 9 o'clock. IDJ said that there is no problem that the inclusion can be hidden by a prong. From what i remember, the diamond everywhere else is pretty much clean, even with a 10x loupe.

It looks good, espically if the inclusion is prongable. I defer though to people more knowledgeable than myself.

My advice would be to make a new post titled "Help with ASET/Idealscope Image." That may get you some more responses.

Thanks. Ill do that now.

Great. Unrelated, when you looked at diamonds in person what was your feelings on color? I feel like if you go down a little bit from G you'll be able to get a lot more for your money.

I was looking for H all along. It just so happens this was a G. I didn't want to go anything below an H though. Thought about an I color, but one of m friends talked me out of it. But right now, i do'nt think i can find a cleaner si2 than this one. I think i've looked at all the diamonds on pricescope and bluenile with the following criteria. si2-vs1, 1ct - 1.25ct, gia, between $5500-$6700, G-H, Excellent, Very good, Flouresence none. I feel like i've searched over thousands of diamond already in like a 3 week span. And the only two i saw that was promising were the two that i posted. My max budget really is around $6200-$6350. That was what i was aiming to spend on the diamond alone. Are there any other places to search?

James Allen had 60 diamonds that met your criteria.

Here is an AGS000 H-SI2-1.05 that looks pretty clean to me and only $5841

IDJ has access to the James Allen diamonds. I just looked through quickly but an AGS000 is as good as it gets.

Here is another G-SI2 AGS000

Sorry, i was only looking at the GIA certified diamonds. I wasn't looking at the AGS. Although it seems like AGS certified is as good as GIA. I guess from all the searching i was doing, i was mostly basing it off of the certification. Anything that had a cloud right in the middle of the table, i immediately ruled out. I figured it most likely would be visible to the naked eye given the fact its an si2. But looking at the ring you posted on the first link, it seemed pretty eye clean to me. But on the report, not so much.

Ya two mistakes there.
1) AGS is just as good as GIA. And its cut grade is much much better.
2) Big gap between the report and the image. Thats where someone like IDJ can help you. You can ask them to call in diamonds for you to weed out the ugly SI2s from the nice oens.
