I am shopping an engagement ring for my girlfriend. I am planing to shop from Blue Nile. Just worry about few things. Does Blue Nile a reputable diamond seller? Im interested in a 1.25 carat round rock, ideal cut, F color, VVS1 clarity, length/width ratio 1, 62.8% depth, 57% table, excellent polish and symmetry, medium girdle, no culet, no fluorescence, 6.89 x 6.86 x 4.32 mm measurement. It's GIA certified and has inscription on the girdle. The price is $12,600. The setting is about $3,200. So, the entire ring is about 16k. Im new to diamond and that my first time ring shopping. I have a few questions:
1. Can I trust Blue Nile? Is there any chance they sell me a poor quality rock but attach a nice GIA report in it? Have anyone brought a loose diamond from them?
2. About the quality I described, am I paying too much?
3. Do I need to do a re-appraisal at my local jewelry store? Just to make sure I got what I paid for.
4. Anyone has experience on returning a "build your own" e-ring? Is the process hassle-free?
5. Do I need to get the ring insured? If I do, which company you guys recommend? Blue Nile recommend "Perfect Circle", which covers mysterious disappear. Anyone insured with Perfect Circle? How is there claim process?
Thank you guys so much for looking and answering.
