I've never bought an oval before and would love feedback. The stone looks nice and the inclusions are not very noticeable to the naked eye. I know the EGL vs GIA debate and if I proceed will have an independent appraisal done. Cost is $6500

What's the carat weight?

It is heading toward the deep side, so it probably faces up smaller for its weight than it should. Something in the 60-62% depth would be better.

I probably wouldn't spend that kind of money on a stone with visible inclusions, which is what you're saying with "the inclusions are not very noticeable". (I have an eye clean GIA-graded 2.06 ct. J SI2, so I'm not color or inclusion sensitive.)

The proportions (length/width) are not within the preferred 1.33-1.66, but some of us (like me) prefer the chubbier "roval" shape.

Have you looked at GIA graded stones in your price range to see what you can get? I would be hesitant to get an EGL stone.

We really need pictures/asets of fancy cut stones but...using the length/width of that stone and knowing
that its graded EGL, it *seems* to be overpriced.

1.51 carat

Thanks. I prefer 1.25-1.3 range for the more round look so that is what I was wanting. The inclusions arent a distraction and barely visible due to location. I'm certainly more wary because of the EGL. It's been a tough job finding ovals to view with the properties I want. She likes the Tiffany 3 stone oval ring and I'm trying to do something similar.

You really need ASET and pictures to determine the stones performance

SCZ28,

I just ran a search here for ovals under $6500, GIA only. The largest one in the search is a 1.41 GIA-graded I SI1 for about $4800 (and up, depending on the vendor). Depth is 59.8%, measurements 8.72 x 6.33 x 3.78.

There's no way to tell without seeing it whether it's a good diamond, but the depth is closer to the desired 60-62%, it is significantly longer than your stone, and almost as wide (so not quite as chubby as you like), faces up larger, and $1700 less for a stone that is probably fairly close in color and probably significantly higher clarity than the one you posted. Based on that, I'm going to say that the EGL diamond is overpriced. Because it's 1.51, so just over that magic 1.5 ct. mark, you're paying a premium for weight that doesn't get you as much size as a diamond that's not quite as deep.

I'm not necessarily recommending this diamond, I'm just saying that there are probably better options than the diamond you posted. It's worth looking for alternatives online. With a GIA-graded diamond, you'll be sure of the color and clarity grades.

It's a little deep.

I did notice the depth however it looks better than comparable stones in the 59-64% range I've been looking through and no bow tie from what it looks like. I'm new to ovals and still learning as I go just want to make a wise informed choice
