Need expert advice on altering old platinum setting

I didn't word my title correctly first tme, so had to change it.

I definately would like to have the back up of a laser on this one. There is no telling what the platinum is like and what it was originally soldered with if it turns out we need new claws.

It looks like a job where the existing setting could be used as a claw setting, not an illussion setting. It may need new claws though. It depends on how it would look as it seems like there is a step there.

By looking at the photo, it looks like the shoulders could be jazzed up and bought close to new again and with 6 new claws or with the 6 claws almost as is, the whole ring could be new again, all be it with a bigger rock.
