I have a loose pair of .23 carat diamonds (formerly in yellow gold studs) that I'd like to get reset in white gold. Nothing fancy, just a 4 prong setting. I work near the Jewelry Exchange in Tustin, CA, but I also live near several small mom and pop B&M's. Any opinions on whether I'd be better off going to one or the other? Does the JE even set diamonds they didn't sell?

ETA-I need it done in 10 days or less.

I had a diamond set into a pendent mounting at the JE in Phoenix. The price wasn''t bad ($77 for a very solid WG mounting), and they had it done the next day. The only problem I could see is that they charged $1 per point to set the stone, so that might get expensive. Maybe check a few places and see what your options are.

Why not just get them rhodium plated?

They are already out of the old settings because I was going to use them in my e-ring (didn''t happen). The old settings were threaded for security, and the extra thickness was painful (I don''t wear them often enough to get used to it.)

Thanks. That''s good to know. So basically they charge a setting fee on top of the cost of the setting itself? Makes sense.

Gotcha. The one by me does charge a setting fee on top of the cost of the new setting itself.

Hi Selkie, I've used NGY Jewelry in Orange before and would use them again. They are super helpful and get most small jobs done in an hour or so. Their address is 763 S. Main St. Orange, CA 92868. There are several jewelers in the store. Theirs is the first in the middle. ETA: I forgot Ste #188

I don't know much about Jewelry Exchange.
