Hello all

You were all a huge help to me last year when I was purchasing a diamond for my wife's engagement ring. I'm now helping a friend select a stone and you've been equally indispensable this time around. So that me start by saying THANK YOU AGAIN!

We think we've found a great option but I wanted to run the specs by this group for some additional opinions before he pulls the trigger. I don't have a pic but I do have the GIA details. Also, the HCA rating is <2

Thank you in advance for any feedback!

Is it eyeclean? Can vendor get you an idealscope.

This could be killer good, or not so good. It depends on how much the numbers were rounded by GIA and what the variance is on the Pavilion angles.

You will really want to see an ASET image on this diamond if possible, but for sure at least an ideal scope.

These tools will allow you to see much more than just the numbers, as you will then see how the diamond is performing as far as light return from the position of the photo.

idealscope and aset are not available with the retailer (union diamond)

We pushed pretty hard for the idealscope image but apparently they simply don't offer them... ever. We are getting some typical zoomed in pics in the next day or two

Should this be a no-go? (effectively eliminating Union Diamond from the list too)

Hi OP, I'm considering a diamond right now that has very similar specs (angle combos) and it's supposed to be a great stone, the ASET looks great. But, like Wink said, the stated specs are averaged and rounded. Not sure what Union Diamond has for a return policy, but it might be worth it if the price is right to send it to a PS appraiser who can do the ASET for you and give assessment. Assuming no time crunch and there isn't a similar deal offered by another vendor (with the imaging) you'd miss out on. What is the price on this or budget you are working under?

Yes (per the customer service person)

The stone is right around 4400 and that's pretty close to the top of the budget. I have half a mind to just have him buy the $30 6x idealscope

Do you find that people ever just buy the simple idealscope in situations like this? Any additional thoughts on whether it makes sense to move forward?

hi OP, yes, if you feel comfortable with reading the IS and/or posting here the image within the return period. That can be done. My only real concern is that I don't think Union Diamond has a trade in or trade policy. It's hard to imagine right now that they will ever want that, but it could be something they would like in the future. I'm impressed with the inventory of B2C Jewels and sometimes they are able to get images, depending on the partner supplier of the selected stone and they offer lifetime upgrade (although 20% restocking fee, but still).
