Please post your thoughts about this asscher. I don''t have sarin, idealscope etc., but I do have a picture of the actual diamond (attached, I hope).

Once I wipe the drool from my chin I''ll comment....

To me, not the expert, that stone looks drop dead gorgeous. The table % is higher than most look for (in the high50''s to low 60''s range), but could be a beauty in person and some folks like larger tables. And that isn''t the largest I''ve seen, just means that when you see it you need to make sure that it doesn''t have a glassy, dead look.

Oh, my, though...that picture is dreamy. Doesn''t look dead at all to me!

table is hair big and the windmills too small.
That said it looks well cut with nice patterns if you like the look then Id say go for it.
Its one id recommend looking at before having it set because you may not like the look.

Thanks Wallermama and storm.

Storm- May I ask why the look might not be appealing?

The problem is that the asscher is in CA and I am in Canada - unfortunately too far to travel to see the stone. Any other way of having a look???
33.gif

I should add that no one in Canada actually sells generic asschers. Most don''t even know what an asscher is
31.gif
We have one maul chain that will bring in Royal asschers for inspection, but the prices for a 2c. RA are $55,000+ and that''s for H colour
14.gif

I have an H color asscher and I don't think it is
14.gif
but moving on... I personally don't like the look of really narrow windmills. Is there any way they could send the diamond to an independent appraiser near you so you could have it appraised, see it in person, and talk about the pluses and minuses of this stone?

Thanks, indecisive.

The problem with bringing the asscher in to Canada is our exhorbitant Customs taxes -25%.

I would gladly go to New York to have a peek if someone could recommend a reputable appraiser???

Thanks.

Here are some independent appraisers in NY... I know nothing about them so maybe someone in the area will chime in.

Also, here is a 2ct F VS1 from GOG, which is located on Long Island. If you are going to NY for the appraisal it may be worth checking this one out too.

As far as color on Royal Asschers goes, you should really check out Tier Hog's J Royal Asscher... look perfectly white. I am not saying this is always the case but I do think you can go down farther than an F and still have a white asscher. My bf just got our H asscher appraised and she thought from the way it faced up it looked like an F and the only way you can see that it is an H is by holding the ring upside down.

If you want to take a vacation to NY visit good old gold and have them bring in a couple diamonds for you to look at.
They should be a nice day trip from NYC itself.

I cant really recomend that one without looking at it first.

I agree in that the windmills are too small. As Storm suggested take a trip to NYC and go see Jonathon at GOG. That''s where I bought my asscher and I''m thrilled with it!!

Thanks, storm,

I have been in touch with Tim at GOG over the past week, and he came up with a few GIA reports.

Today I e-mailed him again with the link that was provided in the post above, and received some info on the 2.04c F VS1 . I blatantly asked whether this stone was "storm-worthy" but he replied that he didn''t know.

I don''t know how to link to it, but if you wouldn''t mind having a look, I''d be most greatful.

As you can well imagine I''m looking for a "kewl" or "kicken" asscher!

Thanks

Kaleigh, thanks for replying.

I''m sure I saw your asscher somewhere on the forum, but of course can''t locate it now.

Would you please post a picture and some stats? Thanks.

Can you look up the thread, Look Nan has her hand on my asscher. It''s all there, it is a .92 E VS1 I put it in a halo setting, which was done by Quest.

Wow, that is one amazing stone!!!

I tried the Gem Adviser feature offered on GOG for the 2.04 asscher and from what I could tell, it didn''t fare very well. Maybe it was my interpretation???? Fisheye very bad etc.

I''ll see what Tim says tomorrow.

ah I see what your talking about thats for rounds not asschers.
All asschers rate that way.
doesnt mean a thing other than you cant use a calculation ment for rounds on asschers :}

They return light totaly different ways the longest light returning area on rounds on the pavilion facets is \/ where asschers are = its the difference between brilliant cuts and step cuts.

round

Thanks again, storm. Relief......

I think its pretty clear why some calculations wont for for both.
The blue arrows point the direction of the longest dimension of the facet.
Also note the difference in the angles of the facets in relation to the crown.

indecisive....thank you for including ''my'' (actually, the ''thread'' is from many of ''us''....not just me) thread about royal/asscher cut diamond. i went thru much struggle for what i finally have! ....

isaku5......i dunno much, but can share with you....that i think the pic you posted looks nice. we can hash out the ''specs'' of this diamond until the cows really come home. but......what''s more important to you? carat weight? you got it.....2.40....that''s plenty. color? F....lookin'' good. from the ''measurements'' you posted, it''s gonna look real square. that''s good. as far as the table/depth ratio''s go, i''ve never seen with my own eyes what a table of 66 would look like. i''d say that with a 66 you''ll have a bigger ''window'' to look into. does that make sense? so, with a 67 depth, you probably won''t have real wide ''steps'', cuz the table''s slightly large. now, does that mean this diamond won''t ''perform'' for you? i dunno. again, i have no experience with the table/depth perameters that you''ve shown. what it''s gonna come down to is you gotta look at this diamond....that means you gotta have a good return policy. you''ll know if you love it.....or wanna leave it.....once you look at it. in my lame opinion, the ''windmills'' are gonna be pretty darn visible at 2.40 carat weight. but, again, that''s my opinion. if you love the pic you''ve posted and have a good return policy, and, of course, the price is right......purchase it and take a look at it. if when you first open the box and it does nuthin'' for you, well, send it back and try for another! anyhow, g''luck...

Hi TierHog,

Great to hear your input too. I followed you post by post and picture by luscious picture as you searched for the perfect diamond for your beautiful Tanya. I''m so happy for both of you that you found it and are searching now for "the throne for the King Royal". Since you''ve put so much into this search, I''m sure you''ll find a beautiful showcase for that beauty.

I agree with you wholeheartedly that I have to see it with my own eyes to make a proper assessment as to whether I''m screaming....Mine, Mine, Mine!!!

Everyone on Pricescope has been a great help to me as they were (are) to you. A great big THANKS to all who have tried to steer me in the right direction.

isaku.....it''s a priviledge for me to be able to share my input with you. and, thank you very much for your complimentary response to my reply to you! i''ve finall got my eye...and somewhat heart... :) set on a ''throne for the King Royal''. i might ''pull the trigger'' ( i love that term
31.gif
) however, i''ve been stressin'' a little about the setting, just as i did with the diamond!
32.gif

anyhow, where was i? oh......as i was rereading your ''thread'', i thought about somethin''.....the specs.... i know i wrote earlier that we can hash out the specs ''until the cows really come home''. and, as far as i''m concerned, that''s true. we can get really anal about the specs and we can spend too much time bein'' real knit-picky (is it ''knit''....or ''nit''...jeez, i dunno
40.gif
) about the 50x zoomed in pics of these asschers....and, that''s all well and good. we''re just lookin'' for the most perfect stone for our cash. well, anyhow, gettin'' back to the ''specs'' thing...you''re in canada. i''d never thought about Customs, and taxes associated with Customs. that could be a real pain for you...so what popped into my head about your situation, or anyone else''s for that matter, regardless where we live...is to perform your search, stayin'' within a certain ''spec'' guideline. if you''ve read my story (i know my story ended up bein'' a long one to follow, or a pain to sift thru for some info) or anyone else''s research, you''ll see some ''preferences'' or ''specs'' regarding what many folks think are gonna make an asscher, or any other diamond, ''perform'' better. so you don''t have to sift thru my long-winded story...i''ll share with you the guidelines i set for myself, based on the specs that are commonly available, to narrow down my choices, yet stay within'' the "recommended performance range"...hey, i like that.....the ''recommended performance range''....lol.

ya know what isaku...i just thoughta somethin'' else. instead of writing my thoughts here for you, i''m gonna start a new post so anyone else like you, and me, can hopefully benefit from what i write...okay?

what shall i call it? ...hmm....TierHog''s Recommended Performance Range? ROFLin''......i might catch some flak (donning my flak jacket) for that...

TierHog,

That would be a great idea and thread for all of us who are looking to buy an asscher! Please let us know what you''re going to call it!!

Are we allowed any clues into the RA''s throne, or is it a secret till you "pull the trigger"?

ahh....the 'secret throne to the King Royal'....i'm really ROFLin'! well, i suppose i could pull my old thread and post my final idea...or ideas there and see what folks think...but, in a coupla hours, i'll probably be sendin' the Royal off (damn! i hate not havin' the Royal here at the house) to have a setting made to fit it....

isaku...what should i call my new thread? for some reason, i'm nervous about starting another 'thread'...lol...i'm in the mood to write tho'...just warnin' ya!

Tierhog... I like your new title" secret throne for the King Royal". That way those who have been following the journey will know what it''s going to be about. For those who are new to the thread, you could do a quick summary of what''s been happening. You''re really creative with words, go to it!

BTW, did I miss the post where you showed Tanya the diamond??? I secretly hope she hasn''t seen it yet, but don''t know how you could resist showing it to her for so long

isaku.......the post regarding tanya seeing the diamonds i ''called in'' to my home is in one of my ''threads''. which one? gosh, i''d have to take a look (right now i''m in the middle of starting another post called...lol......''asscher recommended performance range''.....i hope folks around here take it in ''fun''....and it''s helpful too!!) ...but, it might be in ''royal asscher arrived today'' or ''royal asscher pics'' ......but, answer to your question is that yes, tanya''s seen the 1.96 Royal King, a 1.23H Royal Asscher and 1.23H Asscher cut diamond. she thinks she''s gettin'' the 1.23 Royal......
