It has potential, see if you can get an Idealscope image for it and check also with the seller that it is eyeclean to your standards.

Personally, I''d like to see the crown height come up a bit. That''s a rather shallow crown, and the numbers are rounded. So it could be even lower, or not, but we don''t know.

Lorelei and Ellen,

Thanks so much for your input. Unfortunately, I can''t get an IS but the vendor says it''s eye clean and there is a good returns policy. I am a newbie to all this but have been reading a lot and think I understand now about the depth and table, but I am not sure how the crown number affects the overall appearance of the stone. Also, what do you mean by ''the numbers are rounded''?

I thought that this diamond is a good balance of size, colour, cut and hopefully reasonable clarity. Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge, really appreciate it.

GIA rounds the numbers on most of the proportions (AGS does not). For instance the stone you linked shows a crown angle of 32.5, GIA rounds to the nearest .5 on crown so the actual measurement could be anywhere from 32.3 to 32.7 degrees.

The reason this affects the overall performance is that you want the crown and pavillion angles to compliment each other in order to return the most light. If one is on the shallower end of the 'ideal' range then having the other slightly steeper usually helps (within certain ranges, of course) When both are in the shallower or steeper end of 'ideal', you start having light leakage problems.

Good post!

Hello again,

Here is another contender; I''m attracted to the colour and clarity but it''s certified by EGL international and am I assume it''s no good cos of the depth and the pavillion angle?

Do you think one stone is better than the other based on the numbers only?

Thanks!
