Greetings all,

My first post....have been browsing around this site for a while and I''m impressed with how helpful everyone is in this forum. Having said that, here''s my situation...

My husband wants to get me an eternity band for Christmas. Currently I have a 0.62RB FVS2 H&A in a 18k white gold tiffany 6 prong setting (very similar to the Nice Ice Knife Edge setting). My wedding band is a plain 18k white gold band. Both rings are 2.5mm wide. The problem is, when we went shopping for our e-ring, we asked the jeweller to set the basket lower than it should (I thought the ring won''t turn as much but now I''m not sure about that). The wedding band is not high but it''s still rubbing against the basket of the e-ring.

I really like the look of the shared prong eternity band (similar to the Precision Set #6204) but my husband likes the channel set better.

Here are my questions:
1)Would the shared prong ring look good with my e-ring? Or do you think the channel set will look better? If any one wears a tiffany solitaire e-ring with an eternity band (shared prong or channel set) could you please post pictures?
2)Is the shared prong eternity band safe for everyday wear?
3)Is there a problem if the band is set in 18k white gold?
4)If the basket of my e-ring is low, would the rubbing of the band against the basket increase the risk of the melee falling out?
5)I don''t mind the channel set ring that has a very thin band of metal above and below the melee (I like the diamond to show more). Have you guys came across any channel set like that?
6)I suspect the shared prong will sit higher than the channel set. Would I be better off getting the channel set then? I really like how exposed the diamonds are in a shared prong eternity ring...

Sorry for the long post. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have a 2.4 ct, 24 10 pt stones, shared prong eternity band in 14K yellow gold. I have never had problems wearing it frequently (I do not wear it every day, since I switch on and off different wedding bands). I think it looks great with a solitaire, very classic. I do clean this ring more frequently than my other, front-face rings, becasue the oil from your palm gets on the part inside the crease of the finger.

Go experiment and try some on...that's the best way to get a sense of what you like. Plus, even though i think the eternity band is comfortable, I know women who hate the feeling of stones all the way around.

Here is a picture of it propped up in the computer keyboard--profile is very low

Here it is on the hand

One more from the front...kind of fuzzy but you can see

Thanks for your reply Jennifer. Your ring looks really nice. It's the exact style that I want but we'll probably go with smaller diamonds(3pt stone maybe) since I don't want the band to be wider than 2.5mm.

I can see that the profile of your ring is low. I'm afraid that it's still too high to sit with my e-ring....I did try on a couple eternity bands and channel bands and do realize that the channel band sits lower, thus fits better with my e-ring. Mind you it was my mistake to request a lower set e-ring basket. However, I don't want to spend extra $$$ try to reset my e-ring (at least my hubby is not a big fan of that idea.

I am sure whatever you pick will be beautiful...what can go wrong when we're talking about new diamonds??? Post pics when you're all done!

Snowball (I *heart* your cat, by the way - boy or girl?) I recently tried on some shared prong and channel set eternity bands with my six-prong tiffany-style e-ring. And to my surprise, the channel set bands seem to have a higher profile than the shared prong bands. The shared prong bands seemed to have a much better fit against my e-ring.

May I make a suggestion? Have you thought about a thin, delicate 2-2.5 mm eternity band with pave or tiny melee stones? I tried on one a few days ago that was set very low, and this style of band fit perfectly against my engagement ring.

Canadiangrrl,

Snowball (yes that's his name) is a boy....he's around 2 years old and is a DMH...I stole his name for the forum...haha

Thanks for your input. I will definitely keep my options open. I always thought that pave setting carries a more mature look. Haven't tried that on with my e-ring so I may be wrong.

I'll probably go try on some rings over the weekend and will keep you posted.

I have a shared prong band, seven stone by Memoire, and when I've had it checked at the store I bought it from, I have occasionally had to have loose prongs tightened. Because it's only across the top, not taking hits on the bottom of my hand, I'd assume that it would probably need even more frequent "check ups" if it were an eternity band.

Also, there is one poster on here who had a five stone band with her setting, and the smaller diamonds would "saw" at the prongs, cutting into them.....

If you plan to wear it everyday, I would really consider going with the channel set band, particularly if you don't have your e-ring reset and the eternity band diamonds will be in contact with the prongs of your e-ring -- diamond is much harder than gold and will make mince-meat of your setting.....

Congratulations! I hope you'll let us know (or even post pix) when you find "the one!"

I love eternity bands although the ones with prongs I have tried on annoy me between my fingers. Channel set may be a little smoother. I have a half-round wide band with pave stones 2/3 the way around. Since the stones are small and bead-set, it is very comfortable. I've had it for 10 years and I'm ready for a change though.
