My local jeweler got in 5 diamonds for me to choose from for my new ring, all RB, and all of them looked very nice. They were all GIA rated, but only one of them was rated for cut (others certs were 2005). The one that was rated was Very Good.
Out of these, one stone (not cut rated) stood out as being brilliant as a headlight, and I thought that fire wise, it also ranked up there. He was nice enough to even let me take it for a "test drive" home for the weekend.
What concerns me are the paper stats:
Measurements 7.81-7.93 x 4.78
Weight 1.75 carat
Depth 60.7 %
Table 58 %
Clarity SI1
Color F
Polish Ex
Symmetry VG
Fluorescence Faint
Comments: Crown angles are less than 30 degrees.
By the way, I thought it was a good F, whiter than the others, and a good SI1.
Can the narrow crown angles have been compensated for? I really thought the stone had plenty of fire, but of course, this was the only one I got to take for a home visit; I couldn''t really ask the jeweler to hand over 80K of diamonds for me to play with! In the store lighting and outside the store, on the sidewalk, it held its own against the others fire-wise.
He set aside that stone and is getting in a few more stones next week,so I want to settle this matter in my mind before then, and be a little more educated before I make a choice that has to last me the rest of my life!
